Jordan Neely was killed with a chokehold by Daniel Perry in a New York subway while bystanders watched and to some extent assisted Perry.

Perry has been charged with manslaughter.

Did the bystanders have a moral or legal duty to intervene and stop the killing?

Bystanders had a moral duty to stop the killing.

Bystanders had NO moral duty to stop the killing.

Bystanders had a legal duty to stop the killing.

Bystanders had NO legal duty to stop the killing.

Bystanders had no legal or moral duty to do anything at all

the one BS I see was as well trying to restrain him. the other is taking a video. clearly, we don't know what happened before that so well.

Yes I think they do to some extent. I think you have to be a reasonable person.

as well, what about all the people who left, stepped aside and went on their day ignoring all this. What's their obligations? I think we're obligated to be decent people that make reasonable decisions.

Someone should have said something. Like, I think he's had enough? It is more a moral thing which obviously suggests the other people on the train did not have any. Being afraid to say something confirms it.

A lot depends on what happened earlier - and we don't know that for sure yet.

Beyond that bystanders faced exactly the same issue that Perry faced - trying to decide whether to act in a situation where someone was posing some sort of threat

Well… They might have had a moral duty, if it became obvious that the chokehold was excessive. I can tell you for sure that they didn’t have a legal duty though. Bystanders have no duty to assist people in danger.

They probably were relieved that someone had got Neely under control, and didn't consider that Neely was in mortal danger.

Bystanders helped subdue this nutcase. Nobody told him to let him go. They were all glad that Perry put a stop to his antics. I hope they all testify in his behalf.
