Elon Musk is calling work from home positions "Morally Wrong". Thoughts?

Elon Musk today said that remote workers are "a part of “laptop classes living in la-la land” and said they should get off “their moral high horse work-from-home bullshit.”

I do not dislike Elon Musk for the reasons other people seemingly do, and I do think that there's a lot of people who don't even know why they dislike Elon Musk as much as they do. They just hate him by proxy, because they spend a lot of time on Twitter and see how much hate he receives.

But, his opinion here is typical capitalist. He needs physical bodies showing up to the workplace so that he can continue to make money, so that he can better monitor people and see how they are working, etc. Complaining about the desirability of remote work and somehow equating it to being morally wrong comes off as kind of control-freaky. It's a pointless conjecture because it's not like he's going to persuade everybody who is remotely working to suddenly return to the previous arrangement just because he deems it a better option.

That is entirely subjective, and regardless, statistics show that remote workers are far happier. An employee's happiness should be important. But he's also of that generation which doesn't prioritize issues like mental health and would likely disapprove of a 4-day workweek, which is proven to actually be far better for the productivity and happiness of employees in other countries which observe it.

The latest estimates I've seen for the financial (and just the financial) damage the lockdowns did at fourteen trillion dollars. Adjusting for inflation, that's almost four World War 2s.

I have no problem with the claim that the people who supported them were morally wrong, and DEFINITELY no problem with the claim that they're disconnected from reality, but that doesn't mean that working from home is "morally wrong". I'd like some reasoning on that conclusion, Mr. Musk.

You can't make two billion counting rice all day. He works very very hard and he hates people who are less ambitious then him. I'm not saying it's okay to treat your employees like slaves but the reason he does that is that he treats himself like a slave and he doesn't understand those who are different from him in outlook or lifestyle. The best people are those who do not impose their own way of life on those who are different from them, but very few do that.

You think he does 2 billion dollars worth of work? No, he skims off of what the employees aught to make, and fires employees to keep wages down, even though profit margins are at record highs. His "job" is to mooch off of other people's work and take the credit. Not that he doesn't have the right to as the business owner, but let's be real. Depends. A lot of jobs can and a lot cannot be done effectively at home. I do most of my work from home because everything is supplied to me digitally, rendered/edited/closed captioned by me digitally, and delivered digitally. I go to the office once per week to run my payroll and I do make periodic visits to my clients.

I think he has a point in that there is an inherent unfairness to those who don't have the option. Beyond that I'm not sure; it's a complex question and I haven't thought on it much at all.

My mom works from home she starts work at 8:30 wakes up at 7:30-8 works in her PJs and usually has mid day sex with her 21 year old boyfriend while she’s supposed to be “working” it’s not immoral it’s just probably not productive
