Debt collecting is a fairly hevily regulated industry because there is a very substantial potential for abuse; now many debt collectors want to use AI instead of humans to persuade people to pay their debts - is this a good or bad idea?
is that really AI? Is everything AI now. just sounds like a database and a program.
not sure, they have a right to try and collect on a debt.
unreal 50% of americans can't come up with $1000 so I hear. Our govt has trashed our country... and keeps going... they are stealing the land out from under our feet... by inflation.
I think AI should be used to help "down" americans find the financial resources that are out there for them, but they cannot often get to due to logistic, political, mental barriers. Press a button... and all the money you are owed shows up in your account... wallah!
Example... my mother was old, dying of cancer but we didn't know it. A nurse checked her out... saw no problems... sent her home, she wasn't diagnosed yet and never would have been if her kids hadn't intervened. So kids took over, got her to a Dr., figured out she was going down, then worked the the hellatious process to get her insurance to pay. Without help, she'd never collect a dime.. because she wasn't storng enough.
all these people who are healthy 30 yr olds better find mates, build families and find support. When you are down, you need help in this world because the system is crap. AI... we need AI, on our side. Let the AI wars begin...

Sure, it will be more "human" than the debt collectors though.
Humans being humans will always find a fuckup to exploit in anything. In most AI models the flaw is that once it hits an impasse it gets "creative" in either outright lying or greying things. This is why it comes up with great scientific papers - with lies and/or made up sources. Any AI is only as "intelligent" as it's dumbest programmer.
In the case of law and debt collectors it will work great, until someone goes over the whole algorithm. They will find it's either "lied" or used laws, tactics or legislation in an illegal manner.

I don’t even see how that would work because most people in debt is simply because they can’t afford to pay for that debt. An AI convincing people won’t change anything. Don’t know why we aren’t working on making America more affordable for the people living here
Debt collectors in the State of Pennsylvania where I live, they now handle situations if you have outstanding fines, and you never paid on them, the County Courthouse sends the fines to debt collectors and I believe they put a judgement against you.
Just one part of the issue of how to regulate the use of AI. AI robocalls (for any reason) seem like a terrible idea.
I think it is a good idea, nobody likes debt collectors hounding them and they tend to be nasty to those people. AI can obviously take the abuse from those people that are not paying their debts.
Don’t know…like pay day loans we will have to see what comes out before we try to legislate. But debt collecting is a cruel business, even if the populace deserve it.
No. Make it as hard as possible for this parasites feeding on the misery of others.

I don't use debt collectors, I use the court system in the rare cases I need to.
It was only a matter of time that AI would be used to make money. This is shocking, shocking I tell you.
No, that's not a legitimate use for AI. Although I'm not even sure how that would work? Klaatu Barada Nikto?
No, but I am sure it will happen.
