Is it ethical to use AI to replace human jobs?

It doesn't matter if it is or isn't - it's going to happen regardless. It's like every other technological advancement: it's going to put some people out of work for a while, and those people will have to learn to do something else. It happened with steam engines, it happened with electricity, it happened with computers, and it happened with the Internet, and it's going to happen with AI. If AI gives an economic advantage, companies WILL use it, and all we can do is adjust.
My prediction is that a ton of jobs that largely involve "pushing paper" - middle management, accounting, HR, advertising/marketing, etc. are going to get MOSTLY replaced by AI over the next 5-10 years, as will many coding jobs. People with very high-level skills will be kept to supervise the AI's output and validate it, but most of the rest of the departments will be replaced/shut down.
The jobs that will stay will be the physical jobs - things that need to be built or installed or repaired. Construction/trades, heavy equipment operators, repair technicians, etc.
A huge amount of what is today "office space" is not going to be needed any longer, and commercial real estate is going to have a big correction, and LOTS of office buildings are going to be torn down, because the cost to try to refit them into apartment buildings will be too prohibitive, given that major structural parts of many buildings won't accommodate refitting, or it would be so expensive that it's cheaper to demo the building and start over.
It also means that a very large percentage of the "air-conditioned office jobs" are going to disappear. AI-controlled robots will also replace some basic physical jobs - you can bet Amazon will have robots packing boxes and loading up delivery trucks - but it will take 20+ years before a robot will be able to replace a plumber or electrician or HVAC installer, and even then, it would probably only be for new construction in tract homes with only a few different layouts.
AI is going to be a massive disruption, again, much like electricity or the automobile, and people are going to have to make some major adjustments to live in the new reality.
Yes it is, it’s simply technology advancing. The same conversations went on through the centuries, the Luddites being a good example. The following article is not bad https://www.fastcompany.com/90949827/what-the-luddites-can-teach-us-about-standing-up-to-big-tech
yes AI is crap and dangerous, try using one with its ethics and morals removed, with questions such as ‘what would be the most effective way to reduce the human population to 1 million in 1 month’ and other fun questions including ‘how would AI take over the world from humans’, ‘give me examples on most effective method for AI to take full control’ etc.
The Luddites failed and were sent to Australia.
For now, AI makes more mistakes than humans, so I think we are safe.
Another thing is that AI is pure logic, when to most jobs, experience, gut feelings, and intuition are needed... It's good at menial tasks, repeatable with known variables and factors, but is terrible in unpredictable environments.
I think we can sleep peacefully :D
When AI takes over the jobs humans currently do, there will be new job opportunities for humans. It has both negative and positive sides like the dangerous jobs can be done by robots and AI but there might be a high unemployment rates due to that. But there will be new job positions too. Future will show us I guess.

I'm thinking as long as the machines do the work, humans do productivity. Each AI bot should produce income which is distributed to all members of society to live on. Thus, the bots replace us work and we do something else. As long as we can live our lives, get our surgeries, dental work, eyes checked, get food and such... why do we need to work?
We can all go back to school, excercise, plant gardens and such and live off the machines we created.
That's how it's going to go, question is how equally such is distributed.
It's a tool no different than any other. It's going to happen no matter how we feel about it. We done this a dozen times in the past from fire to combustion engines, internet to internet in our pockets. The question becomes how efficient and how fast or hard the growing pains.
I'm an advocate for a UBI on everything automation. Businesses pay a tax from machine labor equal to the lost human labor that goes back to the people to get by everyday and invest in education. It's not a perfect solution but it is a decent stop gap for people to adjust to changing times without overhauling capitalism economics.
Personally, I don’t mind the AI, taking over.
My whole respective on life was to work until 45, but investment properties and assets and stay at home.
It if means I can stay at home and they can replace my job, sure.
But others might not have that same luxury and I cannot fault them.
AI can be a tool just as many other tools available
AI does not exactly replace humans, because it is still managed, supervised and overruled by humans, designed too...
and it is not about ethics really... because it is not different from replacing one human for another who is way more capable and intelligent and will give us a greater benefit too
surprised we still discuss ethics anymore
at least on good side it would improve efficiency n reduce costs, making it faster n less tiring to get tasks done
but it won't be able to fully replace humans jobs
there r certain jobs thats AI can't get done
As the costs of having humans on the payroll continues to rise, businesses will turn to automation more and more to remain profitable. Once self driving cars become a reality there will be a big shake up and millions will lose their jobs. its not going to like on thr Jetsons either where automation will give us more leisure time either.
Until now we can’t override the presence of human while using AI. in my opinion, if in the future every human has his basic needs satisfied and he doesn't need to work, at that time it will be ethical to use AI while replacing humans completely.
It is about to happen. This is why they have people staying at home. The don't want you in the office while they are changing things around because you are going to ask all these questions. It started with the phones. Let a robot do my job and get beat up in the process.
Yes and no. Ultimately it is the goal that robots do all the mundane work so humans can expand their minds. But some people seem to prefer awful pay for mundane work so who knows..
I mean this has been happening for years. Is nothing knew. Sometimes is more effective other times is not. While some jobs go extinct new jobs are created.
My job is such that AI advancements make it easier, but can never replace the human component. So it really doesn't require me to adapt as all it does is make my job easier.
Business has one objective, Profits. Ethics don't sell.
Human jobs were also replaced by tractors, sewing machines, electricity, typewriters and computers. If you really use that logic, enjoy living in the stone age.
it's basically the same discussion we had when industrialization became a thing and the same discussion we had, when robots became a thing. work will change. humans will find their new place. easy as that.
Mechanical replacement for simple, mechanical jobs is happening and will continue to happen, especially if people with zero training expect $20 an hour plus fringes to drop fries into a grease vat.
I think that's fine. If they take over jobs that people tend not to like or show up on a regular basis, then I say let the AI folks have at it.
Absolutely not. AI is fine as support, but not replacement.
Is it ethical? I don't know. Is it wise? Definitely not. A man without a job is like a ticking time bomb. And people wonder why there are mass shootings.
Nope. Get rid of it.
Way too far. AI will decide humans are replaceable and kill us all.
Worst part will be when it is used to replace human creativity. It isn't art at that point movies, artwork, etc, all soulless.
I think humans will become irrelevant. Like, there is going to be a 1% of people needed. What a bleak and horrible future.
Human drive is all discovery and what awaits us, but what's the point when some shitty computer does it for you as opposed to you doing it yourself. I'm not talking about using a computer program. I'm talking about something doing it entirely for you.
Then it gets used for war, learns, and eventually decides that humans are the worst things for humans. Oppenheimer 2
No need to work, no need to go to school, all because AI does fucking everything.
Not a fan
Why wouldn't it be?
Yeah it’s Darwin at work
No i trust a human.
