What are your opinions on the statement that there are three gates to self destruction: lust, anger and greed?

Lust, anger and greed seem to be the three emotions that contribute to all the evil that exists in the world.

Enough of the geek Stars Wars talk... but in the end you can not close yourself off these feelings. They are natural and right to have these types of feelings, as long as you remember what it is to feel joy, happiness and empathy, without being too self-centered, or too benevolent with the concept of good and bad... because we all have good and bad in us. You can suppress the negative and truly embrace the good if you are not honest about your true feelings.

Well I don’t have greed - would it be awesome to have more money? Yes but I’m not going to rob a bank to be a millionaire

Lust - I’m happily married to my wife - but she’s on menopause and her sexual appetite has practically shut down. But I use a bullet sized vibrator on her clitoris making her orgasm 2-3x. Anger can be productive. Something in the world outrage you? Great, go take steps to change it/make it better/make it go away. Blind wrath maybe no so much, but anger, when properly channeled, can be a great building block.

There's an arabic term called 'nafs' which involves all kinds of ill temptations of a person (including the ones you mentioned along with ungratefulness, pride, laziness etc) and he's/she's is meant to strive against them.
