Yes we could be using our time to solve issues. We have the capacity, tools, and more importantly the evolved intelligent brains to do it, so any bad outcomes in the world is literally our fault. Especially this late in the game. In the span of life on the planet earth and how long humans have been here. Our human history. By now we’re settled in and everything is like cause and effect. We directly affect the climate by now. We impact the food chain on a grand scale. And what we choose, do, and say affects others. We have the freedom to decide. We’re the captain of our own ships and overall, big human ship. So if we see natural disasters, or a war, or an issue with a certain group in our society. A nearly exciting animal species. It’s 100% our fault. If new sicknesses develop, it’s 100% our fault. We could’ve prevented and cured a lot of things. Our progress to make the world better is at a snail 🐌 pace kind of slow. SLOW. And sometimes it’s just not good enough when the results and choices made ended up being more harm than good in certain scenarios.

3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Probably. Our elites are too stupid because they are accustomed only they pleb pays the price for their mistakes. However there is poisoned environment, nuclear war threat, possibility of deadly pandemic... they won's survive that either.
However they are incapable to stop their greed and hatred toward everyone. Our primal emotional brain stem is still too dominant and cortex can't gain control. I guess externals who modified human species made a bad job while giving us their intelligence genomes but they didn't suppress our animal instincts.20 Reply

11 moWe're the only species that mass reproduce other animals and keep them fed until we kill them for food or sell them to be used. If the animals are used for food, a lot of the time, they're wasted and not even eaten.
Humans torture other humans. Humans pollute and destroy beautiful ecosystems. Humans have wars for nonsensical reasons. Humans are greedy and choose profit over people. Humans manipulate those who are vulnerable for their own personal gain. Many human parents abandon their children or are abusive towards them their entire life. Humans are the only species that commit genocide.
There's more obviously, but humans are truly a plague. Obviously there are many people that don't do any of those, but there's enough that do that corrupt and worsen the world.35 Reply- 11 mo
If you look at the animal kingdom, a lot of species also do most of the heinous things humans do.. Ants enslave each other and have wars.. Male Lions abandon their Prides and bull dozed their way into another and kill the cubs that don't belong to them.. Not to mention the numerous animal species that rape and sometimes torture other animal species... Like the loveable menaces known as dolphins etc.. Humans can be terrible and are very selfish no doubt, but we do do more for the animal kingdom that any species..

I'm actually aware of all of those. But in comparison, the bad that humans do far outweighs the good.
33 billion pounds of plastic enters the ocean each year.
In 2022, global C02 emissions from fossil fuels were estimated to be around 36.6 billion tons.
Over 100 billion land animals are raised and slaughtered each year for human consumption. That includes chickens, pigs, cows, turkeys, sheeps, and goats. I'm no vegan by any means, but those stats are atrocious. Imagine being kept in captivity since the day you're born just to be killed for food. 100 billion.
About 458,000 people are murdered annually.
About 370 million girls are raped each year.
Sure we do good for animals (only recently due to social media), but for millennia, animals were treated as tools only. Nowadays, everyone's pets are closer to them than their own fellow human beings, which is equally strange. You see everyone trying to be friends with animals and show what a good person they are. It seems to be the trend to say "I hate humans. I trust my dog more than any human."
The stuff that humans do for animals nowadays doesn't make up for everything else.
Humans are morally fucked up. Most of the things society does is done with greed and selfishness. Now I'm not saying there aren't good humans. But genuine selfless people that only do good in their lives are extremely rare. - 11 mo
Yeah, I can definitely see that and agree that humanity is far from a bastion of goodness.. From somebody that comes from a more philosophically Christian POV, the Bible has multiple verses on how humanity is not good.. But, I never could see us as a plaque on this planet.. The California fires for example are mainly from lack of human intervention.. Not to mention we are far from the most violent species.. Not even in the top 20.. And while those numbers are abysmal (especially the rape and the animal slaughtering) and it should be zero.. It could be worse out of billions of people..

That would be incorrect.

Not murderous specifically to humans, but murderous per capita or altogether..
We are the only living beings on earth that will put their own habitat in jeopardy, and do so consciously. With all we know now about climate change, we still have a short term view on things as a human race. We don't really care what the next generations will think or have to go through.
There are those that say nuclear energy is harmless. That's forgetting about nuclear waste from power plants. Between 1946 and 1993, the seas were abused as a nuclear waste dump. Up until 1975, even high-level radioactive nuclear waste was disposed of in the oceans.

20 Reply 3.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. We could be but so far no, everything we've seen proves the opposite.
We've increased life expectancy, cured many diseases and viruses, one of the largest groups of Animals to exist we are approx a little bit more than 1/10 of birds out there... and that's massive given our space we take up, we've become more peaceful. Etc etc to all the positives we've made that's adapted our own survival.
And in the future who knows what next science will keep us living even longer, the longer we go on the more likely we are to solve problems that we think will kill us.

11 moI’m assuming you mean this on a grand scale, i. e. in the sense that humans are responsible for the toppling of societies made by other humans, which is true historically. Horrendously oversimplified, but true lol
If you mean this on an individual level, it’s true to a degree. Yes, a lot of us are responsible for how we respond to the shitty things that happen in our lives. We can’t always control the shitty things that happen like car troubles, or losing your job, or natural disasters, but we’re responsible for how it affects us and how we respond to it and if we respond with despair and pain and just stay in that then yeah, it’s true. But there are also cases where shitty things happen and we can’t change the destructive factor, like being a child with terminal cancer.10 Reply 1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. We haven't been destroyed yet and we aren't showing signs of it, our populations are getting bigger and bigger, infant mortality in poor countries keeps going down. We have always had wars, bad weather, and environmental problems caused by our own need to survive. Native Americans and Australian aboriginals hunted the Megafauna to extinction. In ancient Sumeria people built too many irrigation works and the farmland became barren due to salt buildup. How did we deal with these things, we created new technology, we shouldn't be worrying about stopping global warming, we should try to make it work to our advantage.

11 moUnclear at this time. There's always the chance we get taken out by an asteroid impact like the dinosaurs. But we have no natural predators. A virus might do it. However, there's a good chance we end our species with overpopulation, famine disease, pollution, climate change or the ultimate thermonuclear fireworks show using fusion bombs seal the "Win" forever.

At a higher level, it can be argued that the universe is configured to ensure the death of all things. At the macro level, the universe flows towards entropy (disorder) and randomness according to the second law of thermodynamics. That means the universe is inherently unfriendly to biological organisms that require a very specific range of conditions to exist. And our best understanding is that an expanding universe will end in a "heat death" which is maximum entropy. Perfect chaos. Perfectly random. All energy ceases to exist. However that is several weeks away so no need to worry about it.

I think that if humans extinct themselves without exteriour help, then because of only two or three idiots.
I would not put the blame to all of ''us''.

10 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Yep. I've come to the same conclusion, we will be the most likely cause of destruction of the ecological structure on the planet (perhaps we'll gain the tech to create artificial life systems before we perish but then that's hardly natural).
