+1 yIf I ever publish any of the books I've written, especially my book series, I am planning on donating some of the money to help the homeless, those in need, and those with horrible illnesses even. I did some marketing research and I found there is a lot of money in writing books. Like thousands of dollars. I did NOT know that. I just found out the other day.
I wouldn't feel right making a fortune in writing, and not helping people. Writers don't really write for the money. We do it because we love writing! So, if I can help people.
If I make money from my books, I will try to feed as many homeless people as possible, and help families in poverty, but not families that know how to con the system or social security, but people that need it. I would help people that really need help, that can't get help. Food stamps barely buy any food, so I would definitely try to feed as many people as possible.
I've written 3 books in my book series and I'm almost done with book 4, and I am considering publishing book 1, and then publishing another book every 2 to 3 months, and I'm going to try to help as many people as possible. It's not about making myself feel good either. I love to write and people need help, so why not do something good from it.
Now all I have to do is get the courage to publish! I'm getting close! My courage is getting stonger!

+1 yI'm not rich, not sure what that is anymore and frankly, the more rich you are, probably the harder it is to spend the $. So learn to give where you are at now. I help the following:
Family members, but rarely do they really need help... most everyone in the family is doing well. Hint... make good decisions in life it pays good dividends.
Church
People that work hard and aren't being paid enough. That means the people whom do the work, wait staff, the people that clean the carpets, etc.. tips.
The unfortunate whom fell all the way down, especially children whom don't have good parents and those whom made bad decisions.

bad luck or medical issues usually aren't the reason why someone is poor. In fact, people under poverty get better free healthcare services than people in the middle or upper classes nowadays. People in the middle and upper classes usually have to pay for doctor visits and meds. Their insurance usually only pays partial. - +1 y

its bad decisions that makes you poor. things such as not doing well in school. Deciding to not attend college or go for training or certifications. There are plenty of people who work jobs while attending school for years and its very hard work. Nothing in life comes for free. You have to earn it. I grew up under poverty. I"m now currently in the upper middle class. It took a life time of hard work to get to where I am right now.

@nastyb true, agree mostly, and a positive way to take responsibility. Congratulations for succeeding in spite of the challenges. Yes, at least in USA, you do the work, you can make it.
Not everyone has good guidance or skills or luck. Parents alone, are a big factor in success. I suspect many whom fail have unresolved traumas controlling...

i blame generational poverty on food stamps, free food, hand outs, free money. When you give people free money aka welfare... people lose the incentive to do better in life.
my parents came to this country 30 years ago , not speaking any English. they couldn't find better paying jobs due to their lack of English skills. they have tried learning English once, but failed. then they gave up. my parents lived off of food stamps... aka free money... which helped them survive on the bare minimum.
if my parents never received any welfare from the government, they probably would be speaking English right now.
By handing out food stamps, you're just creating a generation of failures. Nobody would have the incentive to do better in life. - +1 y
@nastyb you make good points, I like!
all my family is successful. however, some have received govt benefits like medicaid... and it's a little ludicrous since there is enough $ in the family to care for them... govt shouldn't pay honestly, like olden days, family would pay. Since govt is corrupt, they just print $ to pay.
I feel for those who are down, but your point is valid.. they need motivation. I see people though lost in the system and be nice if there was good support. I think there needs better support to get people going in a good direction, and address problems. I've seen hard working people with injured bodies... need to be able to heal, then get back to work. ulimately, the best motivator is they have to want better, and then have opportunity to get it. I was talking with an older guy begging in nyc. he had a stroke and was healing up, has place to live (govt provided). however, the food there is terrible he says, so he begs for $ to get better food. Gotta be a motivator.
It's tough managing humans, this is why I support the republican side more... don't want to enable people like the left does too much. But there is a time to offer a hand up.
I don't like all the govt subsidy, but thats used to pacify people... and you are right, it enables them... why be efficient if they are free? We've fallen into a social distribtuion scheme due to the disparity and wealth gap. it wasn't like this so much 40yrs back.
Also note for some reason, immigrants seem to have drive. people in usa can be worse off, for reason you noted... lazyness. Kids being raised in these schools now... I see problems forthcoming from poor training.

+1 yWow! The list is long. I'd have to give to relatives I know and love first, and friends. That's easy. Then I'd make foundations that would continue to make money for themselves and set up funds for scholarships, money for libraries, economic/financial support for single parents and instruction on how to grow the money they make, money to PBS, money to Headstart programs, money to support public transportation, money to install solar panels on low and moderate income homes. I think that'd work to start.
I'm sure there's more that i can do, but setting up permanent funds to help people would be my biggest goal. And for me, I'd just pimp up my house and maybe buy property around me and make a public garden and manage some public housing programs... There's nothing but good that you can do with loads of money. It'd be fun too.

+1 yMy friends. I'd be buying us commune land in BC, Canada and working with a friend to build dream zero emission homes for each of us. Then I'd make a food forest in the middle with a big group house for us to all hang out in.
Then my friends/family with kids - they have enough money to support them, but I'll indulge the kids' creative and sporting habits.
My martial arts club. I don't want my senseis to worry about insurance, rent, or student fees at all. I'd set up a trust so we could go back to optional weekly donations.
That's it.
I keep everything else. I'll find other causes but let's start with those.00 Reply

+1 yI would help elderly people who live on a low fixed income and have great difficulty making ends meet. You have probably seen them. The ones whose house is all in disrepair and the yard looks shabby because they don't have any money for repairs and are too frail to do their own yard work.

+1 yI’d like to pay off the remainder of my parents and grandparents homes, but they’re on their own after that. I’d pay my tithes. I’d adopt 1-2 kids. I’d give every homeless person I pass $100+. I’d continue to spoil whoever I’m dating at the time. Thats about it.

+1 yFirst and foremost myself and my kids. If we were financially set for life then siblings, neices and nephews. If mega wealthy and could help out friends I would. Even if just clearing their mortgages.
I'd like to open some businesses, again dependant in how wealthy, I'd pay a good wage to all staff, I'd like to break even in the ventures but profit wouldn't be a main driver so could pay a little more to those who made it happen00 Reply
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yThere are no loans on me or my parents. I guess I would use that money to set up financial instruments that would help me make more money without my intervention.
It is just that I have no motivation to help anybody specifically as we are comfortably rich as this moment. I see people behave differently with me.
I hate it, honestly.
