Why are the Arabs trying to shove people (So-called "Palestinians" even though there was never a country named Palestine.) who want to murder Jews into a tiny country filled with Jews when they have GIGANTIC open spaces in THEIR countries where they could easily accommodate them in a place that is much more aligned with their religion and culture.

The answer is simple. The Arabs don't give a crap about those people. They are using them as political human battering rams against Israel.

I criticize Israel because they have roughly a million Palestinians in their territory and 3 generations after annexing the territory have neither granted then full Israeli citizenship, nor full independence. Even when China conquered Tibet, it was done with the goal of making the Tibetans Chinese.

I see no plan, just a hope that the problem will somehow "go away". An oppressed people will NEVER end all violent resistance - its ridiculous to think all million Palestinians will decide to agree to peace - at the same time. Especially in the face of settlements.

What do Israelis see see as the solution to the Palestinian problem?

Israel is probably not committing the worst human rights violations in the world right now, but since the US funds them I feel some level of responsibility and that makes me deeply angry. I will not visit Israel, nor do business with them. Given the choice, I will vote for candidates who do not wish to continue sending US funds.

Are Islamic countries committing human rights violations? Yes - but I'm not paying for them (except Saudi Arabia, which makes me as angry as Israel).

to ric you are close... but not exactly. those in annex, do have rights to vote and DID vote for a local government called p. a. so not israeli, the oppression thete is by that arab leader who prevented elections after his official term ended. about "full" independence israel actualy DID offer with conditions so the only debate continues about those ifs but the principle idea of independence as we see action p. a. already is a separate government. but nobody makes a fuss that p a. oppresssed its citizens in general , nor prevented elections as above no fuss. why do you think they only complain about...

As long as Israel maintains military control of the Palestinian territories I view them as responsible for what happens there.

Full independence needs to include the ability to make foreign treaties, unlimited import / export including weapons, self governance including seizing of settlement properties. I don't think Israel will agree to that - but "independent' means no externally applied conditions. Otherwise they are a subject state.

Israel gained control of that land as the result of a war. OK, that happens, same way the US gained control of western Germany and Japan. But the US let those countries become independent after a little while so no longer is responsible for what happens there

You are leaving out what happened at the Camp David conference in 2000 when Israel UNILATERALLY AND UNCONDITIONALLY OFFERED THE PALESTINIANS ALMOST EVERYTHING THEY CLAIM THEY WANT... AND THEY REFUSED!

Then they set up missiles in Gaza and sent thousands of them into residential neighborhoods in Israel.

Because the basic assertion is ALSO true. Do you think that the Palestinians started resisting the Israeli government just for the hell of it? They were stabbed in the back by both the English AND the Israelis, and they had no choice BUT to fight back. If tomorrow, a Cherokee chieftain were to show up at your door with police, tanks, and a small army, and claim that HE owned your home now, and you had to leave, simply because his ancestors had once owned the land you now live on, would YOU go along meekly and never try to oppose him? And if you did, and moved to just outside the land he now claimed, and he gradually began claiming more and more, pushing you further and further away, until eventually you'd have nothing left, would you tolerate THAT? Because that's what you're asking the Palestinians to do.

Decades on, there's no real chance of long-term peace; the typical Israeli is willing to give up some land, if it ends the conflict, but they suspect Hamas would just use them as bases to launch more terrorist attacks from- and they're right. The typical Palestinian, on some level, WANTS to have more to their life than hating Israel, but they suspect that if they stop resisting, the Israeli government will run them down with bureaucracy and bulldozers- and they're right.

You can argue that the Palestinians are worse, and I'd mostly agree, but to pretend Israel is a just a bunch of innocent victims is ludicrous.

Yes, I'm familiar with Al-Husseini, and with the basic facts of natural selection. The guy foresaw that Israel wouldn't remain a democratic state for very long with a government that wasn't religiously neutral, and realized that he and his people would suffer for it, so he opposed it. You can't claim he was wrong about that. They haven't tried to take down the Dome of the Rock (not seriously, at any rate; there've probably been some crazy Knesset members who've made a show of attempts), so he was wrong there, and from a MORAL standpoint, I obviously can't condone his actions, but self-defense can get pretty nasty.

The Israeli's won that area in the 6 day war. Not only that but it was given to them by God long ago. Israel is not persecuting anyone. They are defending themselves against countries that hate them and want to destroy them. In spite of being a very small country, they have kicked everyone's ass who tried to invade them. It helps when you are God's chosen people. Israel is the 8th most powerful country in the world.

And unlike the Jews that lived in Arab countries who were persecuted, murdered, robbed and driven out of the homes they have lived in since antiquity, Muslims in Israel are full citizens, protected by the same laws, given the same freedom, free to hold the same political offices, and live the same free life as Jews. There is NO COMPARISON between the way Israeli Jews treat Muslims and the way Arab countries treat Jews (ALL Jews not just Israeli Jews).
