Should some rules of the Geneva convention be changed?

Certain rules of it are stupid. Such as private mercenary armies are not allowed, why I dunno?

Private armies are banned for very good reasons. It's been a tactic used by states for centuries to use mercenaries, volunteer brigades and other irregulars to commit war crimes and terrorize civilians whilst their regular forces keep their hands clean.

'Oh no, it wasn't OUR troops that beheaded everyone in that village, it was that mercenary lot, we don't control them!'

That way they seek deniability and to avoid being held accountable for war crimes they instigate.

Nope why would anyone want that? And more importantly how would that benefit you? Would you want a private army so you can use them to kill those you disagree with? Because if you don't I don't see why you want the laws changed as the only people who would is people who want to benefit like this.

People ask for changes in laws and etc want it to benefit themselves. So all this does is make me question what messed up stuff do you wanna do that the laws don't allow?

We most likely need to extend it. Because people have made new stuff that is inhuman since it was written. There should not be any private armies. Why would you need those? That's how a military coup are made. Or it would create militaries among criminals ruling and it will be unsafe for everyone involved. Better to stop such weapon building asap by it being illegal.

I dunno I thought they were interesting but then when I saw the Russian coup I realised how dangerous they are. However if there was a war on I would want them in my country. Ukraine has a few in its country.

No it's better to have a good military in the country. Not have mercenary armies. We all know those contains the worst kind of people and they are very likely to commit war crimes and not only towards the enemy but the local population.

Ukraine has about 5 and Russia has about 10 in this war. In a way you need everything you can get.

No no private person can supply artillery, tank and air support. It's not like the mercenary armies have their own supply lines.

You do realize making something “illegal” in wartime is completely pointless and arbitrary.

No one will be prosecuted for any war crimes. There are plenty of countries that don’t recognize the International Criminal Court or the Geneva Convention.

These laws and conventions only apply to piss ant African warlords or old fat generals on the run from the Bosnian War. Some old, doddering German who was a guard at a camp during the war. 80 years ago. 🙄

Meanwhile people get drone bombed indiscriminately across the world, torture is so well known it’s a public shame, and no one goes to jail but some guy from the Congo who had child soldiers.

If it's illegal during peace it will not be in stock during war. So no way of using it. No one will have training in how to use the illegal product. And you do not need to sink to your enemies level to win a war. In fact if you treat your enemies population well, or even better than the normal ruler, you will get them on your side. We do have an issue with government representative oversteps their rights. But that isn't a reason to make everything legal. It's a reason to open up the government so they can't hide what they do and anyone can watch the deals being made. Ie a completely different issue that needs to be resolved same goes for the fact that money and legal education is required to get your rights heard.

It’s war! Generals and armies do what they need to do to WIN. There is no “fighting fair.” There are not “gentleman’s agreements.” There is only “might makes right” and what you can get away with.

You never have to kill civilians in a war. Unless the enemy use them as shields. There is plenty of moral choices that can be uphold by just focusing on military and logistics. But like always only fools start wars because you can only lose in them. You might lose less than your enemy. But a modern war can't be won. To much destruction.

I'm not American but maybe the US needs a Military coup. But Election stealing authoritarians seem to be mainstream over there. Western governments seem to have gone rouge.

You don't need a military in the western world, just get thousands of people and go protest at whatever place the rulers are and stick to and let them show their inability to listen to the people and get more on your side, and you will topple a democratic selected government.

In Australia there aren't any conservatives left in the parliament. Broken election promises are expected which makes this representative democracy a dysfunctional joke. Combine all that with the Condition of the silenced majority who if they found away to get around the media Censorship would face Government harassment, Antifa and other left wing Violence/ Cancelation. The Australia government doesn't Care what the majority thinks anymore. they Report statistical data on our views that they couldn't possibly know about because people are to scared to speak there mind. Like the Chinse communist party attacks it's critics but then publishes survey data it conducted as proof of how popular they are.
