Seems like the word sparks debate. Fine, but what are we actually talking about?

Don’t who any of these fcks are by the way, just enjoyed the debate. Lol

Money and property would be a good idea, so I doubt it will ever happen large scale. I'll explain what I've understood from a little research and just talking n listening w people.
One of the big factors in the continued higher poverty rate is less/no inheritance money or property. I grew up shit poor but even my dad will have a little money and a house when his parents die, and then when he dies my sisters and I will get something etc. And his parents lived during Jim crow, like this all when there was very explicit discrimination was not very many generations ago. So obviously that still impacts the generational passing down of wealth for many people.
I'm still gonna benefit from what my grandparents owned, while the black people my grandparents same age on average had a much harder time buying property and saving money like that. And my grandparents also inherited some of their money and property, so on, only like 3 more generations until slavery was still happening.
Like obviously it would have been so much different if black people were treated as equals from the start, given good land like white people were, and allowed same education and earn same level money as white people that would then be passed on to their kids. Their kids could use it to help them get better home/education, better work, more for their kids. So on to today.
My dad's heavy into that shit and he plans on splitting whatever he inherits with a couple of his black friends who won't get any inheritance from their own parents. He hasn't told his parents tho bc they're still fucking racist and might cut him out if they knew. 🙄 Anyway my husband and I also like the idea, so we'll prolly do something similar when he or my husband's parents die.
So if u don't think u can afford, but ull get an inheritance, that's one way to do it. Also if u own a house or shit and wanna sell it (for whatever reason), sell it to someone who actually needs it like a first time home owner, & at low price if u can afford. By race specific would be discrimination i think in that situation, so just don't sell at extra high price or to landlord or company who's just gonna rent it out so whoever lives there ends up having to pay more w/out ever getting to own it. 🤷♀️
I don't for a moment disagree that the treatment of African Americans (and indigenous people) in the US was horrible. The problem for me is that after so much time, how do you decide who pays reparations to who. The US has many mixed- race people, along with many people who immigrated long after those atrocities ended.
@richardcory well the simplest way would be for people who can to give to people who need. If u do happen to know ur specific family history, u could have the chance to make more specific meaningful reparations if u find the kids of the other families involved. But ik many people don't know their own history even a few generations back. My dad has no idea if his family ever did anything to his friends family, he just knows he's getting inheritance and they aren't, and he doesn't think that's fair. Im sure there is a better way to do it but I just don't know, like u said is all very complicated.
Already people who are able and willing to help do - whether with money or mentorships or education or whatever. I think that is good, even if its just a drop in the bucket
Money has to come from somewhere. Either increased taxes or increased debt. (or increasing the money supply which causes inflation). In the end the taxpayers have to cover anything the government spends. We might wish that was only paid by the wealthy but most people pay taxes.
@richardcory we could try taking away the tax loopholes rich people use to not pay taxes
Well, laws are mostly made by rich people. But also rich people mostly do pay taxes, quite a lot in fact, but middle class people pay as well.
Where have you seen that rich people don't pay taxes? I'm fairly well off and about 1/2 of my income goes to taxes. (and has for a long time)
Elon musk, many orders of magnitude wealthier than I am paid ~10 billion in taxes www.cnn.com/.../index.html
Companies can avoid taxes but individuals usually pay quite a lot.
I'll agree that sales taxes are extremely regressive and I think should be eliminated and increased with higher income taxes. The problem is that the public is.. well... dumb and happily votes for an "extra 0.5 cent tax", until we have 9% sales tax where I live.
But as percentage of income, on average the wealthy still pay a lot more than the poor - which is as is should be in a progressive tax system.
where does the insanity end why not go further back and give reparations to the victims descendants of the Salem witch trials, those who were burned at the stake? im a mixed kid myself, its insanity this world is so outta control with self entitlement. American Indians should be higher up if this is the route the government is taking with reparations.
to answer your question, nothing thats what because in the end you will never appease everyone when they have nothing but blinders on
Other.
Make it similar to native American Tribal sovereignty. Carve out some federal land for profit business gathering massive income and use that income to overcome social injustice that happens accross the nation on local and state levels that deals exclusively with federal government.
Instead of a state public defender their could be a pro bono payed from the sovereign black profit group that are experienced with radial injustice. Even have jails that reform and not for profit incarceration. I would ask that in a heart beat alaska if i could.

she’s the BLM congressman it doesn’t surprise me coming for her. If she really doesn’t like the United States that much, she is welcome to leave. I never understood why the people stay in the country that they hate it’s called move. But guess what when black Americans move to Africa they’re not seen as black they’re seen as American.
In many Democrat-controlled cities with a Soros-backed DA they are already getting a Purge day every day. I would support a one-time $50,000 payment but they would have to renounce their citizenship, be sent to Africa, and never set foot in this country again on pain of death.
No, Odd, you called for stripping white Americans of their US citizenship. Do you think Hispanic and Jewish Americans should be stripped of their citizenship?
And what do you mean by "lackluster citizenship"? I've never heard of such a thing. And why would I be worried about this alleged "lackluster citizenship"? Are you claiming I'm not really a US citizen?
Nobody made you say you wanted US whites to be stripped of their citizenship. It's part of your racism, your extremism. And you're being held to account for it.
The goal of any sort of reparations is to make up for systemic socioeconomic disadvantage. For example, the people who were denied entry to Harvard because a legacy admission took their place ought to get some modicum of compensation.
NOTHING! It was the way it was (right or wrong) it was, it happened and will forever be part of our history. We learned and we corrected the problem over time.
When you are talking about slavery, right to vote, women rights etc yes it's over and times have changed and so has those things.
It was not illegal when those abuses were taking place and only by us changing it all years later to correct what was horribly wrong, but does not make us responsible for what took place.
There are laws in place about the car accident.
Your Damn right that is what I am saying! We don't owe them one goddamned thing and they better get over it. Nobody breathing air today ever took part as a slaver or a slave, it's history, it's past and will always be a part of this countries history.
There have already been reparations, although they haven't been called that. But government policies that benefit the poor and middle class in general are what's needed, not race-based ones.
It won't end with reparations
It won't end with anything
You could give them everything they ever dreamed of, but you will still be their scapegoat. With this knowledge - why hand over anything?
You're ignorant if you believe it to be otherwise. These people hate you, yet you fight for them out of some weird white saviour complex.
Put it this way, Arabs castrated their black slaves, observe Tunisia - they are expelling African refugees.
It's clear America & Europe treat blacks better than anywhere else in the world, yet because our ancestors didn't do as the Arabs did, we are today plagued with accusations of so-called "Racism"
Tell me - if our ancestors did as the Arabs did, would we be having this discussion today?
You did nothing, that's just how you've chosen to accept a responsibility you never personally did. You're exactly the same as religious people that you likely don't have at least a positive view of in the way you claim we all have generational sin from Eve eating the Apple
All arguments for it are emotion based. Anyone arguing outside this acknowledge that everyone has been through injustice at some point and that it would be injust to selectively reward. Where are the Chinese reparations from the Mongols? Where are the western European and African reparations from the barbary slave trade done by Arabs? Where are Arab reparations from catholic crusades? My point still stands, the only lesson people will learn here is that cruelty would have spared them from their current fate, you wouldn't be having this conversation about reparations if there was no "oppressed party" would you?
Should they get it or not... but imagine what that would do with economy if they would get some sort of money... If you thought inflation is bad now...
Sorry is about all that will happen, if that. Nobody is going to spend money on this. The people that are alive now didn't do it, and the other people that are alive now are not victims.
@exitseven No, it is not a done deal and it actually will not happen here.
@exitseven Don't hold your breath.
@exitseven hope so. Biggest economic boon we could do right now.
@exitseven maybe but that’s tax money baby. Tax on a car? Forget it.
They had their reparations: The abolishment of slavery and Jim Crow. Now we "spoil" them with affirmative action and the welfare state (both treat blacks like they are children or lesser beings).
What more do they need?
What are you even talking about?
No, they don't. If someone causes physical damage to your body, all a lawsuit does is attempt to punish the person who did it to you, not magically make you back to where you were prior to the incident.
I already see the word "equity" in there and I can already tell that you are full of it.
These "reparations" are not making amends for anything that have not already been amended.
Literally nothing. What’s done is done. They now make up 70 percent of the NFL, 75 percent of the NBA, and they get sympathy for causing their own death with the police. What else can be done for them?
Cori Bush... asking for money... because she’s Black... 🤔
I feel like she’s done this before...
A few times actually.
Do you seriously think ANYTHING will EVER be enough?
Oh gimme a break! My f-ing God! Do you seriously think that if Whitey gave every Black person in America 100,000 dollars that they would all say
WE’RE GOOD NOW. We will never ever ever ever ever play the race card again, scream about how we’re being oppressed because of our skin color, and we can all just start over fresh!
Don’t worry! We won’t shake you down for more money! 🤦♂️
Do you SERIOUSLY believe this?
Incidentally, Odd, the California Reparations Commission produced 1000 pages of demands, so we do have some idea what reparations advocates want.
The sums of money involved are staggering. You can't borrow to pay for it, and you can't raise taxes enough to pay for it. And don't forget that borrowing would be inflationary, and inflation is a huge tax. Actually, it would probably be hyperinflationary.
But, sure tell me what you think should be paid out in reparations and to whom.
@oddbeme You never answered my question. Do you honestly think that if financial reparations were given that the race card would STOP getting played and that Al Sharpton, Lebron James, Michael Eric Dyson, Lizzo, and every other race baiter woulldnt try to shake people down, again, or continue to blame White people for slavery?
Nothing that is given will ever be sufficient. There is absolutely no way to “satisfy” their demands. Because the moment they stop being victims the hustle ends. No more money. No more preferential treatment. No more special race based scholarships. No more “White people have guilt for the crimes of their ancestors (never minding the fact that their own ancestors in Africa captured, enslaved, and sold them to be shipped across the Atlantic to plantations...) Say! Maybe they should also ask the African nations for reparations too! How many countries are in Africa? Wow. They got quite the hustle going on.
I’m glad they could put a monetary amount on a centuries old slave trade, and that someone’s great great granddaddy amounted to nothing but dollars and cents. Would you be satisfied with the amount? And would you shut up about it after getting a check?
@oddbeme Coward. Way to dodge the question.
“I Don’t Know” 🤷♂️
Have the Jews ever stopped talking about their slavery in Egypt?
Or the Holocaust?
Or have Native Americans ever stopped talking about genocide, or the Trail of Tears, or boarding schools, or small pox, or how the White man stole their land?
Have women ever shut up about how they couldn’t vote... or own property... and now, Eve. Though they have both, they still don’t stop talking about how it was... generations before they were even born.
No. They haven’t. They all keep yammering about it, ad infinitum. They write books. Make movies. Have podcasts and their own shows.
“Isn’t it awful how we were treated in the past?”
And you all clap like trained seals. It’s disgusting.
@Avicenna If you’re asking me a question, then yes. We did provide financial assistance to Japan after WW2. But those were NOT reparations. The Japanese accepted their responsibility for starting the war in the Pacific. They accepted that their country had been reduced to rubble by the Americans, and they were occupied.
Why give them special reparations for Hiroshima or Nagasaki? What makes that loss of life any more significant than the losses Japan suffered in other non-nuclear bombing?
“Operation Meetinghouse, which was conducted on the night of 9–10 March 1945, is the single most destructive bombing raid in human history. 16 square miles (41 km2; 10,000 acres) of central Tokyo were destroyed, leaving an estimated 100,000 civilians dead and over one million homeless. In comparison, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in August 1945 resulted in the immediate death of between 70,000 and 150,000 people.“
So, why pay reparations... to the nation that attacked you first? It’s nonsense. Or for Nike bombings. Why? The loss of property and life was no more than conventional bombing—that also killed civilians.
America occupied and rebuilt Japan after the war, with the help of the Japanese who were willing to adopt American policy changes, and take American capital, so they could get their economy going.
We didn’t have to do that, by the way. We could’ve just left their country in rubble.
🇺🇸
@oddbeme We didn’t pay reparations to Japan. They attacked us. This isn’t complicated.
If you want someone to pay reparations, ask the Africans. Blame them. They were the ones who enslaved each other. 🤷♂️
$1M to each former slave, paid by former slave owners.
The point is that reparations are inappropriate for slavery. If they want to give reparations for those who actually lived and suffered through Jim Crow, I could support that.
I see your meaning and obviously our government lied and wasted so much time dealing with this issue (20 acres and a mule). But just as an economic idea to benefit our country, giving hard hit communities incentives and tax breaks and free tuition is nothing but good.
So I don’t get why everyone’s against it.
Money. Exclusively donated by libs who belives black people needs reparations, and given to black conservatives. Black libs can settle with a simple sorry.
Read an article today say that silly panel is suggesting $1.2 million per person.
at least 5 million dollars and a Escalade.
I disagree with all of the options
You do that
How much have you given today?
You sure about that, Odd? And do you even know how unemployment insurance works? Apparently you don't. How much of your taxes have gone to welfare payments, race-based grants, or the employment of people hired to fill racial quotas or other affirmative action/DEI? Oh, that's right- you live off of your wife and pay no taxes- I forgot!
In the bizarro Odd world, blacks have never benefited from government spending.
But we won't get into how you have exploited a woman of color for your living expenses. And you did it for years. Unlike you, I have always worked. Even when I was a student.
Well, here's a link to the report:'

And here's a breakdown of the federal budget in percentage terms (scroll down a bit):

@Avicenna you can read the Q above right? How can budget what we don’t know? Jesus fckin Christ. And you keep failing at this and trying to get me on budget. Childish.
I did want to show this graph…funny how our federal deficit is collapsing after 2020
