My brain: Oh no!
Me: What?
My brain: We feel lonely.
Me: We do? Uh okay... what now?
My brain: I don't know. Let's just go be near people.
Me: Alright fine with me.
My brain: Oh MY GOD A PERSON!
Me: still smiles & nods
My brain: Here's some PAIN! PAIN! AND MORE *throws* PAINNNN!!!
Me: Oww wtf dude! Stop! I thought we were lonely! Let's go hang out without doing all of that!
My brain: Hear me, mortal, for I am the voice of divinity. Your feeble brain shall heed my decree. Apologies are but dust before my will, for I now bestow upon you a wretched condition known as hyperacusis! Behold, as the simplest of sounds inflict upon you unbearable torment, rendering you averse to the very fabric of social existence! For the humans are a species of cacophony, and your fate is sealed. Yet, do not be deceived, for even if your affliction were to wane, the bleakness that engulfs your perception shall forever taint your view of existence. Life, once vibrant, shall forever be obscured by the agony you have endured!

The pain is agonizing. It is like a bayonet through the heart.
The feeling can be mixed with anxiety.
Which is something I have recently subjugated.
I find that if one pretends to be confident, and pretends to have good social skills, people will believe. Eventually, it begins to become literal. ๐ - +1 y
To me, it perpetually appears as a theatrical performance, a spectacle enacted for the amusement of others. Yet, it is not an enthralling spectacle, but rather a moderately engaging one, deliberately designed to evade both excessive adoration and/or hate. It is a grand performance that seemingly goes unnoticed, a production embraced for its inherent safety.

+1 yI don't see anything through over fear. I've written 4 novels as part of a series, and I know these books would do well if I published them. The characters all have these fears that hold them back from living, and I know these novels would be relatable, as well as the characters.
Only I would write a book about people needing to face their fears, and I can' even do it! lol.
I just freeze up though when it comes to making any decisions that could change my life. I'm an INFP, so that probably explains a lot too!

Oooh questions my therapist would enjoy lol
Though apparently I tend to make too many excuses for other people's behavior. I always assume if someone acts poorly towards me that it's my fault. Which. Is like. Not how it works. Even more the case with people I'm close with. I'm literally in therapy currently because I kept trying to fix a friendship that ended up being emotionally abusive. I thought I was the one that had done something wrong and kept making excuses for every time I got ignored or he refused to tell me what he was upset over. Turns out it's actually not a valid and healthy emotional reaction to gaslight and give the silent treatment, among other things. It's actually really toxic 😮
I put really high expectations on myself a lot of the time, but don't apply the same standards to other people, because, of course, I'm aware they're unrealistic, but then turns out badly for the obvious reasons.

sounds like that therapist is really checking your ass well with your issues here, i can't believe you needed a therapist to realize that but i see, that is a interesting flaw indeed, i am glad you realized that its not your fault tho, you dodged a bullet with that friendship from the sound of it.

We'd been been super close and I grew up in a household with a decent amount of gaslighting. Apparently makes it harder to spot out in the real world. He was also pretty fricking good at it. Subtle enough that no one ever called him out, but content to play the victim as much as he could without clueing people in to the fact that I hadn't actually done anything to him. I had someone I wasn't even sure knew what was going on come up to me and telling me how much I hurt him. It was pretty messed up.

sounds pretty messed up but no need to get glumy over the past Alli, its in the past and you are in a better spot now, listen to your therapist, they surely know what they are talking about, and you'll be fine ๐
1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Great q. (Probably another one you will not answer, lolol. Naughty Mori.)
I'm mercurial. It's based on several/many things. No one can predict what I will feel when. I try to just insulate and incubate when I'm not good, then emerge when I'm energetic and optimistic again.
But I think my main one is I am very affected by negative things, and tend to see them and not be able to easily unlock myself from being affected by them. I do all sorts of mental tricks (and gymnastics) to try to focus on any positives, or things that are fine and aren't wrong or broken or shitty. But it's really difficult. Intellectually knowing or rationalizing some things doesn't necessarily negate or nullify the feeling of it.

thats a new one, very unique flaws Amanda, your mental "gymnastics" sound scary tho tbh ๐

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yA few of them.
1. I'm a "planner". I set goals! probably too many of them. I've had my life planned out from 25 to retirement. I'm OK with spontaneity so long as we plan it.🤣
2. I'm truthful. And I've learned repeatedly that telling the truth will cost you repeatedly in this life. If you want to get anywhere you have to get comfortable with lying. I can't! My personal honor means more to me than that.
3. Even though I'm driven to succeed I'm not materialistic. What people own does not impress me. Who you are and how you treat people does. Once again, if you want to get anywhere in life you cannot be this way. But that is just not the way I'm wired.

being truthful is not a flaw, many people lack it lol
Opinion Owner+1 yIn this world it is man. And if you don't think so you just haven't paid the price enough for being honest.

i tell people the truth and they talk shit, i just know im not the problem, they are, the truth dont change, its not a flaw, they are the flaw that they are too sensitive for the truth
Opinion Owner+1 yOK but if you live in a broken system where lies are rewarded and truth is penalized you still lose. You get what I'm saying? It doesn't matter if it's right if the vast majority agree to accept and reward wrong.
