If they're being sacked for doing something terrible then no. But if they're being laid off for an innocent reason then they should be given as much notice as possible. In the uk it's a weeks notice for every year employed but most large decent companies will give at least a month because it's bad for their public image.

Speaking from personal experience, most employees stop showing up for work altogether as soon as they find out they're being let go, no matter how far in advance they're warned.
And for some reason, Gen Z specifically seems to have a problem with giving any kind of advance notice before they leave on their own.
