Which is more important, climate change or profits?

If it were only that simple.

There may be adverse effects on climate that are attributable to current use of fossil fuels, but I've yet to see workable alternatives being presented that have any long-term viability that would apply across the board going forward in time.

There are certainly incentives to keep fossil fuels as the primary source of energy by powerful forces.

That being said, the world can't just "shut off" fossil fuels without some sort of replacement source of energy. Not without reverting to a pre-industrial type of society.

It's a tough situation.

The planet itself goes through climatic changes regardless of what "man" does. I don't claim to know exactly how those changes naturally occur, but they do. Science is aware of those natural changes. The historical proof of those changes surrounds us.

Those who might advocate for the immediate total elimination of the use of fossil fuels don't seem to take those considerations into account. Are they ready to return to an agrarian society?

I would be. Of course, that would mean a massive drop in world population. I'd be in favor of that happening, as well.

Profits are temporary and only for limited number of people,

Climate Change affects the whole planet, every living being on Earth and our future as well. It puts our existence under question.

I look forward to the next climate change summit where a bunch of world leaders all fly their jumbo jets in to some luxury mountain resort to discuss how the plebs need to sacrifice more to preserve the environment.

Climate change is a natural process that has been going on for thousands of years. 30 years ago people said that we would have another ice age. Now we are all going to burn. If you look really close at what is going on you will see that the people that are screaming the loudest are the ones who will be getting filthy rich selling solar panels to the Eskimos.
