Should We Be Concerned about CLIMATE CHANGE?

Question

The graph shows how the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) levels in Earth's atmosphere have changed over the millennia.

The levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are often pointed out as a main cause of Climate Change, and why we should be concerned about it.

But should we be concerned? Note that current time is on the far right on the graph, with relatively low CO2 levels, compared to other time periods.

What do you think of this graph and its implications on our planet?

During my life we've had warnings about...

A new ice age 70s
Acid rain 80s
Ozone depletion 90s
Global warming 00s
"Climate change" 10s
CO² 20s

All supposedly within ten years. All to be solved by a new taxation.

The taxes go up. They never come down once the government is shown to be full of shit. And they always are.

It's all smoke and mirrors. Distraction designed to keep the population scared. Like "healthcare" is designed to keep us sick.

A healthy, educated population is far harder to manipulate. The environment only became an issue once it became apparent Communism wasn't the threat they hoped it'd be long term. So climate comes along as a way to control people by making them afraid so they don't see the things they should actually be aware of until it's too late.

History repeating itself.

"It doesn't matter how elegant your theory is, it doesn't matter how credentialed you are. If it doesn't agree with the empirical data, it's *wrong*."

And that is what the human-caused Climate Change models have been for three decades and counting.

Or should I I say, "Western human-caused Climate Change models" since the Leftists do not care about what China, India and other such countries are doing.

Yes because we don't want the dinosaurs to come back.

The problem with questions like this is there's a tendency for people to tow political lines rather than scientific ones. My viewpoint is the climate naturally changes but that doesn't mean it's OK for us to affect it.

On a personal note I have to keep an eye on parasite levels, usually they die off this time of year but things aren't as seasonal anymore. The older farmers and vets have all noticed it. That's more pests and diseases across the industry which means higher shop prices for you.

Climate change is natural and not under the control of humans. CO2 is a trace gas and has no measurable effect on tempeture. 450 million years ago, CO2 level was eight time higher then current levels and the tempeture was about the same as now.

It does seem to me to be egotistical that we think the climate shouldn't change when it has been changing all the time forever.

Earth came close to becoming a dead planet because levels dropped to 180 ppm. C3 photosynthesis can go down to 50 ppm but there is near cessation of growth below 200 ppm. C4 photosynthesis can go down much lower but only a few plants are C4. Sugar cane and sweet corn are the major C4 food crops.

Just as bloody well we started burning coal and built up a safety margin on CO2 levels! Science shows Earth is greening which is a good thing.

Also we are technically still in an ice age but a full blown one has to be on the cusp. So Climate changers should be working avoiding the next ice age and lack appropriate focus.

Nope. These so-called "scientists" have been peddling the same doom and gloom massages for years. They claim that we only have so many years until something drastic happens. The drastic event keeps changing, as well. They keep doing this, just as the apparent deadline approaches.

By their estimation, there should be no ozone layer, and we're in a new ice age, but it's also supposed to be a million degrees outside, and the sea is supposed to be in our front rooms. Explain that, Greta.

I'm not. And I am certainly not concerned about too much CO2. I think we need more. Life thrives on CO2.

What I am concerned about are the evil schemes to mitigate climate change: dimming the sun, forcing people to use electric cars and electric appliances and live in 15 minute cities, getting rid of cows, and so on.

Obviously we should be concerned , if you doubt ( not you specifically Tom) global warming look at a picture of the earth from 1969 and then one from today. Note the difference in polar ice caps. However as individuals "being concerned" won't change the damage already done, im not sure the damage can be repaired, but ill be the first to admit i dont know. But if the experts are to be believed if we can't get the world to move away from the things that do the damage then dont worry, be happy.

Someone should be, but not everyone.
It's like the colonize space problem. There is no point building ships to reach distant stars now because the next generation of ships would overtake them. So the better plan is to work on next gen ship design.
Similarly the current "solutions" to climate change are so ineffective that implementing them now is a waste of time and money that could be spent on researching better solutions that are orders of magnitude more effective.
