I believe that everyone should practice moderation when it applies to our individual footprints. For instance use less water when able, try & purchase products that don't overtly waste resources with their packaging, don't engage in reckless activities that could be damaging to the ecosystem such as littering, recycle when possible & observe all community guidelines dealing with the waste you create on an individual basis. If everyone did their part & wasteful people vowed to not be as such then I believe a combined effort could be beneficial for society at large, but as far as climate change is concerned it is used as a political tool too indoctrinate, acquire votes, & to absorb attention away from more pressing things going on. The truth is climate change is inevitable, the Earth has been in a constant ever evolving state of change since it came to exist & the history gained from the scientific analysis of the geological record is very clear in proving this to be fact. Analyzing core samples is one of the clearest & most thorough means for determining what has occurred on this planet however far you would like to go, & although observable the effects that humans have had on the climate since the beginning of the industrial revolution isn't quantifiably outrageous as many people with political motives will have you think when applied to the over arching big picture. The fact of the matter is that the most aggressive periods of overwhelming climate change was in no part due to humans since when these instances occured humans hadn't the capacity to have such an effect, yet the climate still changed to a massive degree. Also, until humanity can reach an agreed method of watching how we effect the climate this discussion is completely useless & continues to merely be a tool for powerful people to exercise that power. If every single country on Earth besides China all decided to reassert our place on this planet by living in the stone age & completely eradicating waste & CO2 emissions there would still remain China who is responsible for the vast majority of those emissions. They highlight their focus & plan to utilize green technology on one hand, while they continue to mine & burn more coal than at any point before in the history of man, & the method of which they burn the most coal then ever before is far below universal standards, meaning the way they are mining & burning through all this coal is incredibly dirty. So until an overreaching comprehensive plan can be put in place where as humanity decides it want to be better host's to our home planet this discussion of climate change means nothing & is only working to distract the masses wherever those whom maintain the majority of the power & wealth see fit, & is in fact one of their greatest most effective tools for the very transformation of all that power & wealth from the hands of the people to the coffins of the few. The sooner the masses can accept this, the sooner we can dismantle their ability to use climate change against us to take our money, our freedoms, & to divide & conquer us as a whole. These discussions are important, & you should continue to have them, & I look forward to witnessing a greater presence of my unpopular opinion, for now but people are waking up & I hope I can effect that change wherever possible. Also, strap up & exercise your second amendment rights. Thank you.

    yes, somewhat.

There's always climate change, but dramatic change is a problem. I expect impacts to humanity and animals and we have to be flexible to adapt as people and society. It could be very hard on people.

What we do about it, I wish we talked more about that at individual level. Why do we still have all those buildings in NYC... all that concrete... where we could have trees? Why do you have roofs of tar instead of roofs of dirt and plants, which make oxygen and make food. Why are we still such a consumer disposable society?

We can change and adapt a lot and we need to learn to keep our eyes on that.

For sure though, there's going to be unfortunate and unlucky people for decades...

Slightly and I'm totally okay with fighting it without removing freedoms, extra taxes, using the free market system. Not regulation... innovation is far superior than regulation and control.

Example, CA has outlawed small engines, but in the end is will cost people there far more in the long run. New batteries every 5 years or so, that cost as much as a gas powered mower or snow blower. Who wants to have to buy a new one every 5 years. That is a new tax they put into place.

Instead, they should of innovated electric mowers/snow blowers/etc... without any regulation that someone invents one that lasts 20+ years without replacing a battery. At cheaper than current gas models.

Same thing for cars, don't try to force people to buy electric ones or raise the cost of fossil fuel ones... make the electric ones amazingly cheap and long lasting without having to pay 14k for a new battery every so often.

Solve the problems via innovation and not regulation, then I'm all for trying to help it. Otherwise I don't care about it, because as a ordinary person my concern is living day to day (like everyone else) and anything that takes more money from me, I am against 100% and I'd rather the climate change and kill us all first.

" innovation is far superior than regulation and control." This is ONLY true when the powers that control innovation are willing to initiate change and/or accept less profit for a time.

A prime example to counter your point was when scientists discovered the hole in the ozone layer back in the early 1980's. The causes, like CFC's and other emissions, were identified and over 100 man-made chemicals were subsequently banned by the only UN agreement EVER universally passed - the Montreal Protocol.
      www.discovermagazine.com/.../whatever-happened-to-the-hole-in-the-ozone-layer
So I disagree that regulation is a bad tool when it's used properly, for the ACTUAL benefit of humankind, or on a national or local level.

Some of the examples you gave rely on "corporate benevolence" and a lack of greed as a condition of innovation, and that's not happening. One of the functions of a "good government", in my mind, is indeed oversight. When the government sets real and reasonable, EVIDENCE BASED health standards for clean water and clean air, for example, but get's complaints from manufacturers or companies saying "that's too strict, we can't do that", they need to hear - "Yes, you can, but it will cost you money and you'll make less profit, but it's for the benefit of everyone and everything!" When THAT regulation is enforced, guess what --- someone comes up with innovation and meets it. The epitome of corporate greed is when they scream that an environment regulation is going to "put us out of business and cost thousands of jobs", when what they're REALLY saying is - "we're only going to make 10 billion this year instead of 11 billion."

That said, if elected officials and politicians are bought and paid for BY said corporations, as many of them are, then you're doubly screwed. When that happens, they not only roll back safety regulations on air and water pollution standards and other safety factors, but they don't reduce prices on the things they convince you are essential.

Very much so- in particular, because the idiotic way it's being preached about has utterly destroyed any chance of the idea being taken seriously. We don't have massive glaciers moving through Turkey, or a pre-Cambrian-style ice shell encasing the planet; clearly, the climate CAN change. We also have acid rain showing us that yes, human actions CAN affect it.

If you consider the spectrum of plausible anthropogenic climate change as a yardstick, then global warming is about ten inches of it. The greenhouse effect is about four inches of that, and carbon dioxide about half an inch of THAT. Even considering the amount produced, it's still a minor greenhouse gas- but you do hear environmentalists saying we need to build more nuclear plants? Not outside of France and maybe South Korea, no- they talk about solar panels instead, and just stare blankly at you when you mention sulfur hexaflouride.

Our species is extremely widespread and almost unimaginably adaptable; the simply truth is that climate change poses essentially no direct threat to the survival of our species. But our civilization? Oh, that's a different story. And if THAT goes down, then humans will survive- but we'll have blown our only chance to ever get off this rock, and we die when the sun does.

The climate has always changed for thousands of years. There's nothing new or different about that. The huge outcry about cfc ruining the ozone layer was largely pushed by Dupont the manufacturer of the cfc's R12, R22 & R502. The figured the stood to make a fortune by having these refrigerants banned and sure enough a 30lb., jug of refrigerant that cost $75.00 went up to $1200.00 and then they made a fortune selling the new hcfc refrigerants which we're now finding out aren't so good for the atmosphere after all. Scientists have since proven that R22 wasn't anywhere near as bad as was let on. California is banning the use of natural gas cooktops and ranges and insisting on electric cook tops and ranges and yet their electricity is generated mostly by natural gas generation not to mention they already have power failures due to not having enough electricity generation capacity. The manufacturing of Electric cars has a huge carbon footprint and the lithium batteries cannot be recycled and pollute the environment when trashed.

Climate change does concern me as studies indicate it is having adverse impact on health and food quality and availability.

For example, warmer temperatures can lead to an increase in mycotoxins in crops such as corn and peanuts, which can cause serious health problems in humans and animals.

The drought in California in 2015 resulted in a 50% increase in the price of almonds and a 20% increase in the price of lettuce.

Frequent extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, and heatwaves have negatively impacted crop yields.

Some studies have observed that higher carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere can lead to reduced nutrient content in crops such as wheat, rice, and soybeans. This is because as plants take up more CO2, their concentration of other nutrients decreases.

Not really. Not because I don't believe in it or do not view it as a serious threat - I do. But because I am quite okay with a horrivle cataclysmic event sometime.

It being brought about because we as humans refused to work together and did not trust other countries and ourselves with telling a few bigger corporations they can't keep polluting and need to accept a slightly lower level of income is somehow fitting.

After all, all we really need to do to completely stop it is to make about 100 companies worldwide change methods. Not that that narrative is common. People usually confuse the solution with how they travel and alike - which is still a good thing but not gamechanging.

Not at all because, it doesn't exist!
If we're so concerned about global warming, why are all these climate cultists flying all over the world in private jets to tell us about it? Why did Barry Soetoro buy a $10,000,000 mansion on the shore of the ocean? Why did Joe have about 100 lit candles along both sides of his walkway to the podium at his demonic speech last year? Why did he just take a personal trip to Ukraine JUST to hand over a few billion more dollars of OUR tax money and kiss his ass some more?

No. Man made climate change is false. Plus, according to climate alarmists, millions of us are all dead and died many times, cities ha e been underwater/flooded mu, tiple times, etc. It is a bunch of lies. There was a compilation video on YouTube showing the covers of Time magazine since the 1960s claiming huge climate caused disasters would happen by certain dates and ALL of them were false. Lots of lies as usual.

Plus places like California are hypocritical liars. They want to get rid of gas powered vehicles, but just one year of fires in the state pollutes more than nearly 20 years of the car pollution for the whole state. Yet they don't allow many logging permits, don't clear put the dead trees or underbrush, etc. They are just hypocritical liars.

For every 1F the SST increases, rainfall increases 18 to 22% and theoretical maximum intensity of hurricanes goes up by another 22mph (Dr. Jeff Masters et al).

A 122mph hurricane is 5 times as destructive as a 100mph hurricane, and a 172mph hurricane is nearly 4 times as destructive as a 150mph hurricane.

Baseline sea level rise over the next 80 years is projected to be from 6 to 11 feet, depending on how much we manage to curb emissions by then. This would submerge about a quarter of the entire state of Florida and Louisiana, and flood Washington, D. C.

    no, not at all.
It is funny how they base this on just a few hundred years of stats.
Mother nature does not do anything in that short of time. That isn't even a blink of her eye.
They kind of forget that quite a bit if the planet at one time was covered by glaciers and they melted around 2.5 million years ago, long before man was around.
they have guesses as to why, but no definitive answer.
I'm sure they would be saying the same thing if it was getting colder vs warmer, or that the climate wasn't changing at all.

Man made climate change is political nonsense that has no scientific basis. In fact as the following chart shows for the majority of the last 600 million years, average temperature was 10-C decrees higher and humans didn't exist for more than 99.5% of the last 600 million years.

Climate change is always occurring and humans have little or no effect. If there is a super-volcano, climate change will be severe and a billion or more people will die. When the current intergalactic warm period ends (and it is due to end before much longer) we will return to our several million year long Ice Age and billions will die from the climate change. Far less likely will be a asteroid strike but if that occurs, it could be an extinction event.

"Climate change is always occurring and humans have little or no effect. "

      This is false.
      Learn physics.
Global warming due to human activity was first predicted in 1896 by Nobel-winning physical chemist Svante Arrhenius. You will learn about him when you take chemistry in high school.

      I do need to clarify.
Climate change does occur for natural reasons, but the global warming that is happening now is because of human activities putting greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. A greenhouse gas is any gas whose molecular structure contains 3 or more atoms. The more atoms a molecule has, the greater the ability of the molecule to retain energy. Most of the atmosphere consists of 2-atom or 1-atom molecules: Nitrogen, N2; Oxygen O2; Argon Ar However, water vapor (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) are also in the air and we keep putting more CO2 into the air. This is causing more energy to be retained and that elevates the temperature because temperature is actually a measure of the average kinetic energy of the molecules.

@abc3643 I never heard of Svante Arrhenius until I Googled. His Nobel Prize was not about climate change. It was his "electrolytic theory of dissociation" whatever that is. Of course Google and other mainstream media that should never be trusted doesn't want to talk about that; instead they talk about his climate change hypothesis that other very intelligent people have refuted.

The fact is, as a trace gas and with only 1 part in 3000 of our atmosphere, there is too little CO2 to have any measurable effect on global temperature. Furthermore, only about 3.2% of all CO2 in the atmosphere is man-made. And finally, as the following chart shows 450 million years ago CO2 levels was more than ten times higher with the temperature the same or lower than now. Over the past 600 million years the chart shows there is no relationship between temperature and CO2.

So call man made global warming is political nonsense that has zero scientific basis.

      Young lady.
I have a degree in Physics.
      You do not.
Global warming is obvious to anyone who understands basic undergraduate physics. The same physics which explains all the atmospheres of the other planets.

Meanwhile, Einstein did not win a Nobel Prize for relativity (he won for the photoelectric effect), yet the nuclear weapons designed, built, and used were based on E=m*c^2 which comes from relativity.

In other words, just because you don't win a Nobel Prize with your scientific discoveries doesn't make your science invalid. Ask the 10s of thousands who died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945.

@abc3643 Those calculation may be applicable to explain the high temperature on Venus. However, on Venus, CO2 is not a trace gas because there is about 250,000 times more CO2 in their atmosphere than there is in earth's atmosphere. Water vapor, not CO2 is earth's primary greenhouse gas.

I am certain you can solve math and physics problems found in college textbooks. I cannot. I know because I googled several physics problems and I had no idea how to solve them. However, manmade global warming nonsense is not about math and physics. It is all about government lies and propaganda for some evil agenda and I don't know what their agenda is but certainly it is not to tell the public the truth. However, the truth is seldom important to governments.

There always has been climate change. Therefore, I will never claim there is no climate change--sometimes global warming that occurred for a few recent decades and sometimes global cooling that may be occurring now and for the next several decades. However, the evidenced does not support any significant amount (perhaps not any measurable amount) due to human activity.

Even though you very well may know better because you appear to be too intelligent not to know better, it appears that you are a supporter of government lies and propaganda and I am not. That is how we differ.

      Yes.
So, ask yourself: "WHY does Venus have so much more CO2?"
      The physics is the same.

God did not magically give each planet the atmosphere it has.
Atmospheres change over time; they age.
And because of these two factors:
      1. Mass of Venus (thus giving it its gravitational field strength)
      2. Size of Venus
      3. Proximity to Sun
All the light gases like O2, N2, Argon... they boiled away a long time ago leaving only the heavier molecules like CO2.

And Mars has its mostly CO2 atmosphere for a different reason - it's much smaller, so those lighter gases were able to escape on their own.

And the giant planets have lots of hydrogen and helium which the inner planets don't because 1) they are further away from the sun than the inner planets and 2) their gravities are much stronger than those of the inner planets. They were closer to the sun and smaller, so the heat and low gravity permitted hydrogen and helium to leave their atmospheres long long ago...

      =========
It would take me a while to explain all this.

So, I will leave you with something more important...

The world you inherit is run by Nature.
No human - no matter how smart or dumb, good or evil, young or old - it doesn't matter - can overrule Nature.

Nature speaks in bottom lines. It dictates what will happen.
You can learn Nature's language and thus predict it and wisely live with the consequences
      OR
You can fail to listen to Nature and live with the unfortunate consequences.

Becoming scientifically literate is to change how you view the world and protects you against bullshit and those who would exploit your ignorance.

That is what is happening to you right now.
At 14, with your lack of scientific and mathematical education, you are currently incapable of understanding certain things. (This can change very soon if you open your mind.) So, instead of arguing using scientific facts, you cite sources to back a belief you have. That's not how good thinking is done.

Not once, have I ever needed a source to tell me whether global warming is bullshit or not.
I know its not because I am sufficiently scientifically literate that I fully understand why it is happening. Believe it or not, it's just that simple.

And, one day, if you open your mind enough, you will get there too about this issue and so many others. I look forward to that day.

"Part of what it is to be scientifically-literate is how you think about information that’s presented in front of you. I think that’s the great challenge. You have people who believe they do know how to think about the information, but don’t, and they’re in the position of power and legislation. You can’t base a society on non-objectively verifiable truth. Otherwise, it’s a fantasy land and science is the pathway to those emerging truths that are hard-earned and that some have taken decades, if not centuries, to emerge from experiments all around the world."

Yes, because it's real and is going to cause real expensive-to-fix problems including mass migrations, expensive sea walls, and wars over dwindling resources.

People want to “let nature run its course.” But we are a ‘Force of Nature.’

I don’t know why we want to lay that down…

It bothers me, yeah. I think it is natural but we do affect it negatively.

I think we have the opportunity to not let it affect us so drastically, and still respect it.

To answer the question: yes, it bothers me.

For sure, in my life time, I have seem tremendous change in weather conditions. it would be nothing for us to experience a week or two of temperatures below -10 Celsius in the winter, so far this year we've maybe had 4-5 days total.

We've had more tornados/twisters in the past 4-5 years than we've had in 40 years. That much change in a span of 50 years is really alarming.

Nope. The climate changes. Its what it does. It's not a static phenomenon. It has changed a thousand times throught Earth's history millions of years before humans came along. Antarctica used to be forrested and Bonneville used to be a lake.

But yes, we should absolutely deal with the polution issue and all that.

That is straight up conjecture. Who is "evil" what is it that makes them "evil" and they ruin what for who? You couldn't be any more vague if you tried.

Sounds like Gretta. Complaining her childhood was stolen even though she grew up in a highly developed 1st world country with a high Human Development Index.

Meanwhile there is child slave labor in Africa where kids are digging up lithium with their hands and no shoes to produce the raw material for the batteries in electric cars. I wonder who's childhood was really stolen.

You must live in a fantasy land , where everyone is nice. People in general are destructive. Pure fact. They do t care who or what it affects, as long as they get what they want. We over consume food , especially meat. Everyone wants a SUV or a truck. people deny advancements of technology. People throw garbage on the floor, people steal, kill , destroy nature for pleasure. Our toilets run down into lakes and rivers. We create so much garbage per household. Just because you do not see it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Why do you think laws were created? Because people did what they wanted. Consumerism just creates more garbage, people always want the newest tech right away.

I just did. To you it may seem like another day. But bigger cars use more fuel, pollute more, over eating food causes more problems, more land , more pesticides, more people more problems. More garbage created, more gas emissions, more resources taken from earth, etc. Just because you live in a fairy tale land, doesn't mean nothing is happening around you. Recycle, reduce, reuse!

That is still pretty vague. I stated blatantly above that I agree polution is a real problem that must be addressed. I also don't think you really understand how cars and engines work. Bigger does not automatically mean more pollution. Some 1.5L 4 cyllinders get worse mileage than 5.0L V8s. Diesel actually burns much cleaner than gasoline. The lithium Ion batteries in electic cars are toxic to any biology and the process to mine, refine, and manufacure

What I don't believe is that we are approaching an irreversable climate catastrophe in just a few years.

I'm also tired of hypocrites like Justin Trudaeu who criticize people for turning up the thermostat while at the same time galavants around in a private jet. And then the people who think electic cars will fix the issue. The lithium Ion batteries in electic cars are toxic to any biology and the process to mine, refine, and manufacure damages the environment and pollutes just as much as hydrocarbons. Not to mention the child slave labor in Africa used to mine the lithium. And the electricity to charge these machines is still generated by coal, oil, and gas.

As I stated, I agree that pollution is an issue that does cause environmental problems. The issue here is that you are giving me vague and generalized responses. Which leads me to believe that you don't actually care about the issue and are just parroting the narrative.

Even if humanity stops all industry right this second and dissappears the climate will still change. We have zero control over it. Earth and nature will continue on and we're just along for the ride.

Ok. But every single item you own destroys the planet. So many things have batteries. Especially smart phones, where people change then every few months. Gas cars still have batteries in them. All wireless devices have batteries. Unfortunately you have to start some where to advance to cleaner way's. heck they have made a biodegradable batteries. Then there's people that dont want to advance and say gas cars forever. More people more vehicles. More smog. Look at LA , or overpopulate countries, they are ruining it for the rest of us.

Governments will never care, all about money and power. All humans do is buy buy , buy. Making the Uber rich more rich and more powerful. And get away with high pollution factories.

Oh don't get me going with people that are city slickers. They really dont give a f. We all suck. It's so unfortunate. If only people cared a little more.

People are and were too selfish back then when it wasn't too late. Now that it may be, people are panicking. Stupid humans lol.

So yeah, I think it's probably 'too little too late' as they say. I hope I'm wrong though.

That said, I'm having a hard time adjusting to it (one extreme to the other), but I'm sure it's more so for seniors and people that are older than me.

No, it does not. The climate always changes. Much of the US is likely to be under a mile of ice in 60k years.

*"Climate change" aka Global Warming is an atheistic religion supported by people who have no religion.

No I think climate change is a false narrative pushed to destroy America and build up the Chinese State.

In my view we should transition to Nuclear power for energy sustainability using Thorium element 90. And Eliminating or limiting mass farming to curb emissions from livestock

The climate is always changing, the people who are trying to tell you its your fault are just trying to scare you into giving up your freedoms. The people who claim the icecaps are melting are also buying million dollar beachfront houses. The people who say you need to buy an unreliable 80k dollar electric car are driving around in a Limo that gets 5 miles per gallon.

When they look at ice cores in Greenland and Antarctica they see the same weather patterns over and over again for millions of years, so this whole "climate change" is so phony. There were periods in every century of super hot and super cold weather, and cycles of tropical and ice age climates. There is NOTHING different about what's going on now.

not at all. it's a good thing. plants breathe co2. so too much co2 will increase plants growth on the planet. global warming goes hand in hand with global greening which is a good news nobody is talking about. and in fact this is already happening. earth has gotten 15 more green (more plants on the surface) in just the last 20 years.

Very much so. It’s pretty clear that humans are at least partially to blame for it. It would be irresponsible of us to not address the ways we’re damaging the atmosphere. Future generations shouldn’t have to suffer from our selfishness.
