Where do your morals and ethics come from?

I think it starts as a base in you. You're mind, your conscience. Then it's how you are brought up, either by family or society as a whole. If you don't have empathy at all or a conscience then no matter what people teach you will matter. That's how we have sociopaths and psychopaths and narcissists.

From having a lot of bad examples around me. I learned what wasn't right and I realized that I didn't want the same for myself.

That is a really good question and I don't know. Some is probably from early experiences, but I can't really connect my current moral sense to anything I was exposed to as a child. Some from religion - but not for me, since religion has never been part of my life.

What is stranger is that I know my moral sense has changed dramatically (and I think improved) during my life.

I'm aware of where many of the parts of my personality come from, but n to that part.

Our morals and ethics come from our early indoctrination. Later, hopefully, we start seeing cause and effect and become considerate of more than just our indoctrination or ourselves. Ideal morals and ethics come from discovery of how our choices impact the greater good for all who might be impacted by our choices and a legitimate caring about that impact.

I think a lot of it comes from a strong Mormon background, concepts like work ethics and personal responsibility (A lot of it came from my father figures, both my maternal grandfather who helped raise me as well as my step fathers) I think also a lot of my ethics came from religious and spiritual reading such works as "Be Here Now" were quite influential, that's where I got my vegetarianism from.

Ots a mixture of many things:

What teachers and parents teach us when we were kids, to follow the rules.
Inspirational characters from movies and TV shows
Human concience
Qoute: Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Friends and strangers.

Primarily my parents. Some was created in school. Some from books i read. Some from church. Its a mish mash. I do my best, but i have flaws. I will challenge my own self at times… everyone should.

wisdom of living life and experiencing things rather then questionig them. for example... I've been homeless for 4 months before unessicarily because i was court ordered to wait 4 months for my apartment to reopen. this experience shaped a lot of my morals and wisdom. i can tell who is just a drug addict and who is really homeless and in need now, allowing me to help people who deserve it and can make a difference in their lives
