How was a tiny country like Britain able to conquer & rule India so easily for so long?

I get that the British brought civilisation to India along with indoor toilets, sewer systems and ended a lot of barbaric Indian customs. Of course Indian women were happy to be British concubines to British soldiers & civil servants, most pale skinned Indians are the descendants of British fathers. Did Indian men feel inferior to their conquerors or just happy with British rule?, I mean India is huge and there were only a few thousand British soldiers and civil servants running the country at any given time. Though the country hasn't been as well run since.

For one fair skinned Indians existed LONG before the British. There are many minorities in that area, probably more than you can count or comprehend.

For two the British didn't have as much influence as educational failures think. The Indians integrated what was useful and laughed about everything else the British tried.

Indian culture & tradition after all is very much the same as it was before the British ever arrived. Indians used the British as much as the British used them.

Actually, to be honest, as the British looked down upon the Indians the Indians used and abused British culture more than the British used Indians.

Britain had a sudden burst of technological and industrial growth starting in the 1700s. Between the decline of Rome and then, western had been a bit of a backwater, with the most advanced civilizations being in China and the Islamic world, and India was doing OK as well.

Its not clear what caused the sudden burst of technology. One thesis is that it was the creation of intellectual property and patents. This allowed people to become successful by inventing new things, if if they didn't have the resources to produce those things themselves.

By the mid 1800s Europe and the US had a vast technological advantage over the rest of the world - which had been advancing at a steady but slow pace. England got the earliest start and was in that time the most advanced in the world. That gave then the technological / military power to conquer a large part of theworld

By the late 20th century that advantage was gone and as we get to the 21st century power is more widely distributed. There is a good chance that in the next few decades China will retake its traditional position as the center of human civilization. We'll have to see.

If you look at ot this way a divide Europe into northern and Southern, Southern Europe was largely advanced compared to the North which during the dark ages was mostly sparsly populated and covered in forest. It was really during the age of discovery that those european nations with access to the Atlantic overtook the Mediterranean european powers in technology and wealth exploiting the new world and undercutting the Silk Road for access to China, India and Africa which all led to the demise of wealthy Muslim nations, along with China and India.

Easy it's because many Indian men were in the British army and helped the British (same things happened in France with Algeria, many Algerian fought on the same side as French soldier against the Algerian and against Algeria independence.)

I think in this time indian dint cared who ruled them they only cared about the money it bought them. (same as to how African are happy to work for foreign company in their country because they get pay a lot more with our company rather than their own).

How can a tiny country like Ireland kick the British empire out at the height of its power, then the most powerful nation in the land. How can the UK in two world wars come to the United States with its begging bowl? How can the UK lose to a country like Egypt in the 50s? How can the British empire lose in Afghanistan in the 1800s? How can a bunch of South African farmers kick the British out?
We didn't lose in Iraq. We are still in Iraq and Iraq is still earning for the US, we all know the troubles the British army had in Iraq. We didn't lose in Afghanistan, there was nothing worth staying for and we were looking for Osama bin laden and Alqueda.
We succeeded in our overall strategic goal in Vietnam which was to stop the domino's from falling, to test new us military equipment in action and to access Soviet military equipment.
Britain currently is America's bitch, which us why we have military bases there and why our extraction treaty is one way only. Churchill sold the British empire for 50 old destroyers in WW2. Never has an empire declined so quickly as the British empire after WW2.

They took back control because the Afgan people aren't willing to fight fir their freedom. They waited until we left and to be perfectly honest the Taliban taking back control is in us strategic interests in the region.

Between the IMF& the EU bailed Ireland out. The British government protected the interests of wealthy British businessmen and Lords who own quite a bit of Ireland still. You only have to look at the difference between the Republic of Ireland and British occupied Northern Ireland to see the vast difference in wealth and infrastructure.
