Knowing the earth cycles climate naturally?
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yI am not going to trust all those creeps in WEF unless either every... single... one of them walks to Davos.
No private jets, no cars (even electric because it produces carbon to make electricity for those things), no nothing. Put their money where their mouth is
Have their meetings on video call like the rest of us pesants do.
This is the bare minimum too. If they really want to be climate friendly, they should give up all their possessions and live in grass huts. I know they won't do that though.

+1 yThe whole planet would have to work together, and there would be no guarantee of any improvements. I read one day that the carbon level from the sun takes 8 minutes to reach the earth, and it increases over time, which is what is killing ocean life. The polar ice caps are melting at a rapid speed, so figuring out how to stop the earth from getting hotter would be a start.
Then there's all these "Environment friendly" contraptions, like solar panels, which what most people don't think about is that they still have to be manufactured, which is still using resources to do it, so it's not saving as much on the environment as people think.
The damage is already done with the climate. The only way to prevent further resource problems is for everyone to star doing little things, like recycling and using less resources. Scientist are looking for ways to prevent further damage. Bill Nye has an engineering degree, and he started a program to save the environment. Will it work? There are no guarantees anything works, but he had some good ideas.
It's a shame the politicians don't care because there are even things they could do to help. In the past, some of the elected officials that cared about the environment that passed energy bills both saved a lot of earth's resources and tax-payers money, or at least that's what I read. Everyone always has different opinions on that though. There are ways to save the planet. This is the only planet we have and if more people cared, maybe more people would care enough to at least see what they could do to save it.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yCan't reverse what your not causing. Scientist say the increased CO2 levels are at best 40% caused by man. They also say CO2 is almost a neutral gas in terms of green house effect.
So if the world is warming out of control all the effort to shutdown CO2 production is almost certantly barking up an insignificant if not wrong tree.
The real question is if warming is happening is it natural?
Our records are not good enough to say, If its not natural then there must be other more far significant factors at play that are not being addressed.
Finally the big question before even going down this academic rabbit hole was is warming undesirable?
To that I would say NO, a warmer earth is a more inhabitable earth. It would require comparatively simple and easily controllable tecnoligy to cool the earth (a large sunshade for example).
ensuring the earth gets enough energy on the other hand is a bit more difficult, we are currently living in one of earth's great ice ages, and As nice as everyone is led to beleive things are now, this is NOT what like on Earth evolved for.
in the long run returning the earth to its normal greenhouse environment would be a wonderful thing for life.16 Reply- +1 y
The best way to lower CO2 levels is for the “going green” folks to kill themselves. That will lower CO2 and the green folks can finally do something meaningful with their useless lives.
Opinion Owner+1 y@Exterminatore That is a very untrue and rather cruel thing to say.
As it happens increasing CO2 levels as well as increasing the earth's temperature is already making the earth more green.
Thus "going green" is really the position of those who advocate more CO2 or heat.
Those who wish to restrict the CO2 and heat will only slow the process of greening and possibly fail to prevent the end of the Holocene interglacial and return of the ice. Again locking up much of the earth's fresh water and crushing everything above the 48th parallel.- +1 y
You don’t like sarcasm and dark humor do you?
- +1 y
That was scathing satire, I’m not serious they should do that.
- +1 y
You get the dark humor now right? Respiration = taking in oxygen and exhaling CO2. Less people = less CO2.
For what it’s worth Gengus Kahn killed so many people he lowered CO2 levels on this planet. We know this by studying the rings on very old trees like Banzi and Joshua trees in combination with historical records of how many people they murdered. - +1 y
Dark humor is like food. Not everyone gets it.
5.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Yeah. But it's not about CO2 levels.
We can stop farming practices that desertify and sterilize soil and prevent it from absorbing water and CO2 and producing oxygen.
We can stop emitting sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides into the air that cause acid rain. It kills plankton and terrestrial flora that consume CO2 and produce oxygen.
We can stop pouring toxic chemicals into the air and oceans.
We can stop destroying forests, especially rain forests.
We can stop weather modification that rain substances and make forests unhealthy and more flammable.
There are many things we can do to reverse the damage we have done to the Earth and make it more healthy. Reducing CO2 isn't one of them.06 Reply- +1 y
@Lliam the question is intentionally worded in a biased fashion. He doesn't want honest input, it's a political post in the format: "Do you agree with my political stance? Options:
A: Yes, or B: No, I'm an idiot and should kill myself."
You answered the question appropriately, which was "do you think you can reverse climate change at all?". It wasn't "Do you think your nation is the ONLY nation that has ANY effect on climate change?" which is the bait and switch being attempted here. - +1 y
the whole "omnipotent" thing was put in there to steer people away from answering reasonably. A simple Yes/No option without ridiculous qualifiers like "we are omnipotent" would produce a more accurate poll. But an accurate, unbiased poll is not what he wants.

@AngryCarl2 what times? the year 2050 when the Earth goes extinct?
- +1 y
The Earth isn't going extinct, we are.
- +1 y
@AngryCarl2 if humans are going to go extinct, it's not because we can't withstand the cold or the heat. it's going to be because something wiped us off the face of the Earth even if that something is each other e. g. wars, no one having kids etc.

We can make lots of changes that benefit climate and our environment in general. I doubt we will because the young people are brain washed in our schools, so that's up to govt and corporations... and they are corrupt.
and I hear sucking water out of the ground causes major issues.

+1 yThings like hurricanes and tornados are becoming more commonplace and powerful. Tornado Alley has become bigger, not smaller. And hurricanes are coming further inland. All that hot air coming out of Biden's yap is not cooling things down either.
00 Reply1.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No one will be able to stop climate change. The world is currently heading to the peak hot time in-between ice ages. All we could possibly do is reduce Man's contribution in supplementing the advance to the peak time.
Besides, in 10-12 thousand years, everyone will be bitching how cold it is and how to get rid of a 3000 foot thick ice sheet out of their front yards.

+1 yNo of course not because it’s a made up agenda meant to instill fear and anxiety upon a population. A fearful population is an easily controlled population open to the fits and fancies of those in charge.
The climate agenda has become a global religion and if you go against the agenda you are cancelled or worse.00 Reply26.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No. It will take 100 Trillion dollars to change the planet's temperature 0.0000035 degrees.

+1 yCan't reverse it. Damage has been done. But we can limit the continuing damage we as a world has done. Give more options to energy than just oil and gas.
A friend of mine has a wind mill and solar panels. Hasn't paid a real light bill in years. If he does its like 50 bucks.

+1 yfunny is our german government is convinced germany can do it, even tho we're contributing only 1% of the greenhouse gases these days xD
america and china can together actually have a huge impact but they won't chage. cause nobody can force them to.even then, i think "reversing" wouldn't be possible. "slowing down" maybe.

+1 yI don’t. As you stated, the earth goes through natural periods of heating and cooling. However, those with an agenda would have us believe otherwise. Climate Nazis I call them.
20 Reply It's not about reversing climate change, it's about limiting negative affects, not just on climate but on the natural world in general (so we aren't completely screwing future generations) and creating the stability that so many of our major systems are dependent on (because if those break lots of people die, which, obviously, is bad).
16 Reply- +1 y
I mean yes? It's not exactly all that natural to begin with, so we absolutely can limit the human impacts. You can't really reverse it because that would involve creating massive carbon sinks to an extent that isn't really feasible as far as I know, but can we slow/stop further issues? To some extent, absolutely. That's kind of the point.
- +1 y
Nope. The ice used to extend as far as south Texas. It retreated and left a shallow inland sea that eventually dried up and is today the Great Plains. The ice retreated further and carved the Great Lakes. The ice is still retreating. It’s not gonna stop no matter what. There will be extinctions just like in the past. So again. Is this an American problem or a world problem and do you really think you can change it? I’m laughing at you
- +1 y
Environmental issues aren't just about ice, you know that right? And I assume you're also aware that you're grossly over simplifying millions of year of earth history in order to pretend that your life style has no effect on the world around you and so you might avoid responsibility for it?
