The thing with 'global warming' is that it is being used as part of 'Project Fear' to stop people from looking too closely at the main cause and has everyone looking at 'man made' CO2 which makes up an extremely tiny amount of the total Atmospheric CO2. instead of looking at the underlying cause which is Inter-Glacial Warming, which is cyclic in nature

That's rather misleading. Your chart appears to show sharp spikes in temperature, but that's only because of the scale, with horizontal lines being 50,000 years apart. For perspective, 50,000 years ago, early humans were only just beginning their migration out of Africa. In reality, the changes were gradual, up until very recently.

Man-made CO2 does not make up "an extremely tiny amount of the total" - it makes up at least a third of it - and while CO2 levels also change alongside those long term temperature changes, they have never been anywhere near this high, or rising so steeply.


The effects of greenhouse gases actually are fairly well understood too. There's a simple experiment you can do, where you get two plastic bottles, and half-fill them with water. You then add a few tablets of alka selzer (which dissolves, releasing CO2 gas) to one of the bottles, screw the caps on, and shine a powerful lamp at them. After a while, the bottle with the tablets will be much warmer than the one without. In other words, there is clear evidence that CO2 levels and temperatures are both rising, and we have identified a mechanism by which one causes the other - so if that's not happening, you would need to find some evidence to show why that is not happening (ie. evidence of another mechanism that counteracts the one we know occurs).

I'm pretty old and I have no kids, so I have no horse in this race, but that is simply what the facts indicate.

A very thought full question. I think that there is a scale. Somewhere between... doing something... And doing nothing. Both have problems. For example doing things that feel good but have no real effect has shown to slow drive for more helpful solutions. Known colloquial as slacktivisim. But waiting for all countries to get on board because otherwise- what's the point is equally distainful of the middle ground. I am hopeful that we will have a technological solution that actually is effective. So yes I think there are already clear paths open to greatly slow anthropogenic global warming. Even if everyone doesn't use them it will slow and may shorten eventualbnegative consequences. Also continuing financial and social incentives in the wealthiest countries will help develop the technology that hopefully eliminates the necessity of burning of buried carbon source for energy.

Yes, that's carbon monoxide, CO, not carbon dioxide, CO₂. IIRC, carbon monoxide bonds with your blood cells in place of oxygen which turns you a funny colour (blue, or is it bright red?) and starves you of oxygen, but gently. There's a hilarious scene in The Full Monty to do with that.

The Quaternary Period we are in, has had several glacial-interglacial cycles. We are in an interglacial now. The poles will be ice free in less than 5-10k years. There may have been 20 glacial cycles in the last 2.5 million years. It's clear that these cycles involved the growth and retreat of large ice sheets and glaciers. They'll be back.
