Going for basic car maintenance.. oil change, tire rotation.. then they take it for a test drive, bring it back, and it’s not drivable anymore?

What did they do that would cause this? Nothing wrong with your vehicle, it was driving fine and now it’s stuttering and not going past 10 mph? I’m not the only one who has had this issue after taking it into a shop for BASIC maintenance

Did they add enough oil? Go to the engine bay and look for the cap with the leaking lamp, look around for the dip stick and see the levels of your oil, there should be a marking of where it should be, if it doesn't match it's possible they might have added to little and it wasn't enough for the grinding of the gears and they ruined the engine by not adding enough oil, do you hear grinding?

This was 10 years ago for me. My cat was fine until they handed it back to me in less than an hour. I do t know what they did but I I had to get rid of it. I’m only asking this question because my friend is having the same issue. He keeps up with his oil changes and shit. His car wasn’t driving like it as after he left the shop

He should file a lawsuit on that company and try getting at least the money of his car's blue book value out of them

What is the year and model of the car? Was the service done in a timely fashion? Did you go back to the workshop? It sounds like a timing issue..

I forget. Long time ago.. it was a dodge intrepid low mileage.. what makes me ask this question is because a friend on social media just had the same issue he’s complaining about

Both mine and his car was kept up with maintenance.. it was just coming out of the shop where we both had issues

It should be now rare in a modern vehicle , so the year and make do make a difference , in the old days this happened all the time , because they'd adjust timing to where it should have been but that engine was no longer able to run like that , now its a simpler process because the computer should tell all , but if the car is say 10 - 15 years old , I'd just take it straight back to them , and he of course needs to make sure this service was not overdue ks wise.

I did that and they argued with me. And it sounds like they treated my friend the same way in a different location

Sounds like it is going into limp mode. The car won't allow for normal function because it is trying to prevent damage. Could be something as simple as a censor reset or clearing a code.

Their insurance should cover it.
