You are a cop. You have been called to a domestic violence dispute between a man and a woman. What would you do?

There are no other details. Do you arrest anyone on site? If so, who do you arrest first?

First off I do not arrest anyone or follow 'The Duluth Model', to begin with I'd separate them into different rooms, and check both parties to see of there are any physical injuries to either party looking for defensive/offensive wounds then take statements from both.
If the predominance of the evidence shows the Woman to be the aggressor then she's cuffed ah off to the police station. the same would apply if the predominance of the evidence shows the Man to be the aggressor. I've dealt with DV cases before and I've never gone into one with a closed mind as it usually comes out 50/50 who the aggressor is you just have to not let yourself be swayed by the weeping woman who has been hurling pans and crockery seconds before you arrive at the address.

I would be highly trained , no one is arrested immediately , so I would go though all my training and protocols.

I separate them, question them both, take their statements, look for any bruises and stuff on both of them, figure out how much of their statements match then if they were both fighting arrest both of them or who ever was the aggressor..

In some areas, it's required to arrest one of the two. The person who usually does NOT get arrested, is the person who called 911. So always try and be the first one to call.

Domestic violence reports are usually one of the most dangerous situations that the police can respond to. Anything can happen.. That's why I evaluate the case instead of arresting a specific gender.

Most US Police departments have an unwritten rule that the man is always the one who gets arrested, since women will file complaints and make accusations against police if they get arrested. Men generally will not.

I wouldn’t arrest anyone until I see someone that has clear signs of experiencing physical harm, then I would arrest the person who looks fine.
