Absolutely not! We should encourage the reading of LGBT books in schools to promote diversity, understanding, and acceptance. Anything with heavy sexual themes should be kept out of elementary or middle school. Once someone is in High School simply having access to it in the library is fine (obviously if it is straight up p—— maybe omit that regardless of which crowd it is targeted at) because then teens would have access to it and teachers wouldn’t have to teach about it in classrooms either. If someone is looking for something LGBT you will find it and if they’re not then there are plenty of other books available

This reminds me of those parents who got the Christian Bible banned from a school because it's full of graphic and explicit things. I'm not a teacher. I think in general, teachers should be trusted to know what is developmentally appropriate to assign for their students to read. And in general, kids should be able to read about ANY topic. Having a book in the school library doesn't mean that kindergartens are reading it. But it does mean that older kids in the school have the option to read it. I think that's good. Knowledge is good.

It also reminds me of that girl who was able to tell her mom she was being abused by her dad because she read a book with simple pictures like that illustrating healthy sexual behavior, and inappropriate sexual behavior. It gave her the knowledge to recognize what was happening to her as abuse, and to communicate that with an adult who could help her. Which is an example of why knowledge is good, and why withholding knowledge from kids is not protecting them.

School libraries and classrooms shouldn't have any religious books in them. That includes satanic books promoting homosexuality just as much as it include the Christian Bible. There should be separation of church and state in the USA. Being that children are mandated by the state to attend, the state should push no religious ideology. That's not to say a parent can't purchase a book of any particular faith and provide it to their child to read in their free time, but the state should not provide the material or teach the material.

Schools with students under a certain age for sure (probably up until high school). I'd extend that to include basically anything that could be considered sexual in nature, or at least as a core theme.

A commonly required or recommended book in schools with prominent sexual themes is The Scarlett Letter, which as far as I know isn't required until high school, so that seems like a reasonable cutoff point to me.

Some books like Gender Queer are just full on pornography and should be banned from public schools entirely. That one in particular is specifically targeting young children and I think one could actually make a legal case against school officials involved in approving or acquiring it.

It is a very reassuring feeling to know that LGBT propaganda is not promoted to children in our country. When children reach a certain age and mature, if they have a tendency towards the LGBT community, they will look for things that will give them information. But such things should not be presented to individuals who have not reached the maturity to make decisions about themselves.

If it’s not a forced thing I don’t see a issue with lgbt books on shelves. I’m pretty sure queer youth are like 40% less likely to kill themselves if they have just one accepting adult, those are all those books are intended to do. Your kid reading a book about two daddies isn’t going to turn them queer. if sexuality was that simple then kids that were sent to straight camps and got conversion therapy would have become straight but they didn’t. There wouldn’t be a huge population of queer kids in iran, the apex of religiousness/conservatism where people still get hanged for being gay. Sexuality happens despite the influence. Children go to school and are immersed in heteronormativity and you want to take away the few lgbt books🤥

You know what SHOULD be banned in schools, anything religious: the Bible book, pledge of Allegiance, even those private religious schools that’s constantly brainwashing thousands and thousands of children, etc.

But specifically to your question, absolutely nothing regarding LGBIQA should be banned in schools. Children should learn about sexuality and sex regarding gender in their biology classes. However, there are actually many things children should learn in school, including how corrupt the school system and government is: how schools refuses to teach children about surviving the crappy world, how to manage money, invest, etc.

I remember at my middle school, there was a section of books under lock and key and in order to check them out, you had to have parental permission. An example, "The Scarlett Letter," because it delt with sexual themes. I mean, it's hard for me to advocate for kids seeing sexual imagery in books, because even in my high school, we weren't allowed to see the sex scene in the 60s version of Romeo and Juliet, but up to parents always, right. They are the ones in charge of their kids, and if they don't want them to see it, they will come to meetings and protest against it as is there right. Other parents don't care, so maybe parental permission is the compromise.

Yes, especially for the elementary kids. I do however encourage some degree of sex education for middle and high schools. The problem with these books is that it can confuse kids, due to them bring impressionable and not yet fully mentally developed. By that, many will try to label themselves as lgbt and even try to make irreversible decisions (like surgery) as underaged. They will regret their actions when they grow up.

Everything about sexuality is very dangerous around kids. The only thing that can be mentioned in my opinion is that there are some families with 2 mothers or 2 fathers (alongside sex education for middle school and up).

Sex ed isn't even offered until ms. Let them learn about sex ed first, and then allow the sexual orientation discussion.

Plus by hs most people are starting to learn their orientation and that is the right time.

No book should be banned. But, I think controversial or polarizing books probably don’t belong in some grade level schools. I would really want a confused kid reading some things solo without the awareness of their parents who (in almost all cases) have their children’s best interest at heart. Books about religion, sexuality, and some history books are just not for grade school. I wouldn’t want my young son seeing some things without my having an opportunity to discuss it with him.

The whole point of this life is to give us the right to choose who we want to become and how we want to behave. I'll say this. A school library can only hold so many books and there are millions and millions of titles and endless classics, biographies, historical records.

Gay, trans stuff is NOT at the top of the list of what schools need and none of that sheeet should be available to people not in high school.

Elementary schools and middle schools should not be making that available to kids.

I think it depends on the age. High school is when most people tend to explore their sexuality. I think books are resourceful in that age bracket. We should not however expose younger children to it. Their brains are till forming (not that high school brains aren’t) and we do not need to influence them. They can decide for themselves as they get older. We should also ban drag queens from reading to our children. No needs to expose them to it.
