That would be a preferable way of sex education. The reality is children and parents avoid the topic like the plague. So children are more likely to learn from a peer sourced "hub" of some kind and learn not safe things or have unrealistic expectations.

Let's start with your premise. Schools teach language, writing, reading, history mathematics, science, social studies, biology/health.
School exists to train up the youth to be productive citizens and for them to enter the work force and to have skills.

So when 6th/7th graders are introduced in a general way to the way reproduction works. How do my kids compete against the Chinese and Indians and Europeans for skilled jobs and careers? Section 8 mentions that the teaching of gender identity or sexual orientation are subject to Section 5 meaning that: 1) The school district needs to let the student know that they are going to teach this stuff. 2) But the parent's can say "Fuck that!" and not subject their kid to learning about this stuff from the school.
This is not a big deal. When I was a kid, they didn't teach this stuff and it wasn't very relevant anyway since it's something you learn about as you get older simply by living in the world. That said, understanding WHY things like gender dysphoria or homosexuality occur goes a long way to removing hate, so it would be good to teach this stuff in an objective manner that doesn't advocate for or against, but simply explains 1) this stuff exists and 2) here's why we believe this happens.
It's that last part why some people are going to get uptight. The root causes of LGBTQ+ issues are during human gestation. So, in a sense, they're like a birth defect. That removes the concept of sin because those persons are "born that way" and did not choose to be that way. Various religious groups may consider these things sinful, so the objective explanation is in contrast with their religious teachings.
So, bottom line, what the law is doing is letting religious parents be able to remove their kids from learning about those aspects of human sexuality at school.
Frankly, what a smart ass teacher could do is discuss these things in animals since animal sexuality is not "human sexuality" per the bill. . . . . But it's all moot anyway because the bill effectively died in 2020 and not likely to be taken up again.
I don't think kids should be taught sexuality period honestly. Thats for the parents to determine what if anything they learn in that area. I also don't like schools pushing the LGBT agenda on every one as its entirely fabricated and politically driven (gays are not being hunted, the first gay pride parade was in 1970, 51 years ago. So far their has been no issues (hell even their argument of the Daniel Shepard killing falls apart as he met his killers at a gay bar and one of them was bisexual and both admitted they did it to steal his money and drugs. It had nothing to do with homosexuality).
That said, I do not believe its a topic that should be avoided either, it exists and we should treat it like everything else, i. e. we don't ignore it and we don't force feed it to people either and treat them like they are gods gift to the world, we treat it like we treat heterosexuality in schools i. e. teachers teach geography, history and math without mentioning it because its not pertinent.
No one should be fired at least in public schools for their sexuality which would be a violation of federal law. Private schools are private and as such can do what they want (though I don't support discrimination (which is why I'm against the LGBT movement as its effectively discrimination against non LGBT people).
Back years ago I would not see gay materials at school as a bad thing. Times have changed.
Now being gay or trans is a fad at my daughter's school. She has one class that everyone is non-binary. And some want to physically change or use blockers to stop puberty. There are some talking about how they want to remove their body parts, and if the parent objects, they could be held for child abuse for not being open to their child's choice.
The gay and trans thing is out of control. It really needs to be something discussed at home. It doesn't need to be glorified at school and become a trend.

I am particularly opposed to the radical "trans-sexual" agenda. I strongly oppose allowing men to compete in women's athletics or to use women's only facilities like showers, locker rooms and communal restrooms. Case in point from the 60's. A young boy was born in a nice home, he had another brother; his parents after his birth had wanted a girl, and decided to treat him like a girl, and made him conform to all things girls do. Even his name was a girls name. By the time he became an adult, and a few of the family secrets started coming out; one was that he was born a boy, not a girl. He made the news and several talk shows asking him about his life as a girl; even though he was a boy. He said, he felt something was different, but he was not sure.
He started living as a man after finding out his birth gender; and eventually, because of the way his parents had brought him up, he had a major mental conflict, and killed himself. He never decided one day that he would be a girl. His parents decided for him. No child can decided one day, they will be the opposite gender; majority of cases, the parents or another authority has planted that seed, and encouraged it, causing a mental conflict. For those who prefer the same sex; it is purely a choice they made because of the way they were treated younger by their own sex, or the opposite..
The key is that most people who choose these life styles after they have left home; if they are choosing them while at home, who is coercing them?

According to Romans 1 Homosexuality is the result of a choice, though in most cases homosexuality is not a direct choice. It is truly sad people choose to hurt themselves in homosexuality, promiscuity, drugs, crime, and all other forms of sin. Christ has provided a way out of homosexuality, fornication, and all punishable offences. It takes repentance of all offenses and accept Jesus payment on the cross for them.

Kids obviously need to learn about the world they’ll be living in, which increasingly includes homosexuality and transgenderism. These topics should be part of any school curriculum. I think where schools get into trouble with the general public is when they celebrate and promote these ideas rather than educate in a neutral fashion. You’re obviously going to have children from religious families in your classrooms and you have to handle the subject carefully to avoid controversy and having the legislature step in and pander to those voters with regulation.

Well, depending on the students' age, I believe it is right to notify parents/guardians if explicit content will be taught such as sexual education. Now, when it comes to banning teachings on homosexuality, as well as other sexual orientations, I do not think it is a good idea. I think there is a proper way that this can be undertaken, so as to provide growing children with a diverse viewpoint when it comes to sexuality. So, when they witness or see homosexuality, bisexuality, etc., they will not feel like strangers to what they are witnessing. I feel like they can be more educated, tolerant, and caring towards many forms of sexual orientation with the proper education.

Why? Because people who don't understand things tend to be judgmental. Those who are judgmentel for no reason are a lost cause however, we need to educate these kids so that the LGBTQ kids don't get harassed or bullied for something that is normal.

I believe that the school system should maintain strict neutrality about sexuality. I also believe that the school system should promote kindness and consideration to all. I would just as soon not waste my class's time discussing sexuality, hetoro or homo, because at the age level I taught, virtually no child was even remotely interested in it. I agree with getting the ideological propeganda out of the classrooms, and i also agree with the concept of getting parental consent for these themes. But for me its not far enough, i want a free market of training to get targeted training instead of all this generic repeat what the book says brainwashing. Its expensive, ineffective and creates generations of people who are mediocre rather than an expert in their field. Only to then develop that expertise after school if they are capable people, meanwhile people just experimenting with stuff and learning outside of the school system in their spare time are years ahead of anyone who just learned at school.

They are using a form before gay marriage was accepted in the U. S. Also they mostly just teach about protection against stds which most stds are causes from men and women with the exception of AIDS where its higher in gay men.

There was a boy name Christian being rumored to be a homosexual and it spread like wildfire. They all gave him looks. I was even center of the rumor one time but it died down once the Christian rumors arose. Someone even said he'd seen his p **is in a bathroom stall. I overheard it and nearly brought my breakfast back up that day. Not because the thought of it was disgusting, but because people would say things like that about a person in public knowing they can't go back from it. Our guidance counselors at the time interrupted our English session to discuss just that the following afternoon. They said that we were far too young to discuss relationships and that relationships past kissing belonged out of school. They also explained that despite that, children no matter sex, age, or race were entitled to a good education.

I truly think that we need to keep the sexuality out of the schools except for the actual biology and reproductive organs and their functions. History is trying to repeat itself. Sixty years ago before the civil rights act, people are trying to ban education about interracial marriage and relationships for different excuses, especially those that are religious. You and I disagree about LGBTQ issues, especially the trans part (though tbh except for a friend of a friend I don’t even know any trans or non-binary people irl so I don’t feel the same visceral attachment to that as I do to the bisexual issue).
It's a huge mistake to mandate the teaching of non-heterosexual lifestyles to children. It is caustic to anykind of respect that parents have for teachers. It would be more inclusive, and respectful to both parents and educators if there was a mandated parent or guardian course on non-heterosexual awareness. It should be the responsibility of the parents to teach this information to their kids.
sex education that would also include safe sex should be functional. People also have gay sex and knowledge on how to be safe works better then avoiding the topic. Having access to avaliable choices is better then learning from other peers most of the time.
It's terrible and will end lives. Knowing that there are other people like you when you're queer is very helpful and honestly life saving. By not teaching it, kids won't learn and will feel weird and like they're different, which could end in suicide.
Separation of church and state. State can and should encourage a judgement free zone. Churches should have no say in the education of one's child. A parent should pull their child out of a state run school and place them in a church school if they want them to continue to be judgy and unchristian like.

Thanks for the update. The history and context of Missouri law really helped frame the meaning of your question. This is one of the problems yet to be addressed by the internet in general. That being that local and national context and history is really important when trying to understand why someone thinks the way that they do. I support LGB just not as a school curriculum. And that's fine just like you do support it in school neither is for a negative reason just different in views

Seems like conservatives are overreacting to losing the election. They're trying to pass as many anti-voting laws and homophobic laws as they can while there is still a conservative majority in the Supreme Court.
I'm not a lawyer, but it sounds like those state laws violate Federal law. Maybe no one has bothered to challenge it because then again, if you are LGBTQ, why would you want to live in Missouri? LOL

Stupid. Homosexuality is a biological fact that kids need to be able to understand, especially kids that are unsure about their sexuality. It is an integral part of sex education, which should absolutely be taught at schools
That doesn’t solve the issue with homophobic parents. And it is practically not feasible to design sex ed around every single kid, let alone homosexuality being a basic part of sexuality in biology anyway
all for it because i didn't even have gay teach at my school and i wasn't in school too long ago, i started thinking to myself "wtf is this world coming to? they teach children about being gay now? why? there's no need, it could encourage kids to be gay, stupid world..." im glad they grew some sense and reversed that bad idea
I think they should keep this and the anti racist stuff from being taught in school. I mean this is common sense. You don't really need an entire class dedicated to teaching genders and anti racism.
Treat everyone how you want to be treated. It's not that hard to figure out. And when I was in school I never had learn this stuff.
Just teach the kids what they need to know. Like English and math.
Don't see a problem with mentioning it to parents, in turn that gives the parents a chance to talk about it. Not covering it could be a positive, if no one cares about the difference, then there's no need to draw attention to it, because it could create more conflict instead.

I think the only purpose you would need to teach sexualities is just as an add on to sex-ed, teaching people how to safely have intercourse with the same or opposite sex.
Thats good, there's no reason to teach it at schools its not something normal at all. If that person wants to be LGBT then sure let them go and have it theirselves but no reason to bring it to schools lol, humanity is going crazy.
While I think this law goes too far, it's a reaction to LGBT activism and Critical Race Theory being pushed - and pushed hard - at every level of school. When you push way over the line with fringe activism, you should expect an overreaction...
If you're "born that way" then what needs to be taught? No, I don't think that it needs to be taught in public schools. I'm not sure what's being taught in general sex Ed right now but I don't think this is necessary.
Not sure, but I am a little sick of my children being indoctrinated into the far left at school. When I was a boy (grumpy old man voice) educators and journalists at least tried to appear impartial and communicate facts.
I have no issues with the LGB I just feel that it is very personal and sensitive to some people this topic as is sex and it's not the states responsibility it's the parents.
Mutual, its a heavy topic to teach at such a young age and it could influence a false sense of identity among those who aren't fully developed. On the other hand I believe that we should always be able to express our true selves and educating people from early ages will give them the knowledge and confidence to make a change.
Yeah, but read the second part of your second sentence again. If people are inspired to change their sexuality due to the things they are taught, I don't see that as something that happens naturally within themselves.
I think that’s a good move. Let’s be honest here, sexual orientation, gender identity and everything around lgbt is imaginary and its only purpose is to make them feel good. Now I’m not denying them anything, they do them I do me. The point is, you can’t start forcing the education of a topic every time a group of people start imagining something.
It shouldn't be legal from the 1st place! The kids should be taught about love, marriage and family... They should be taught that in this world there is only men and women and are created to complete each other, comfort each other, love each other, take care of each other and to create a happy family together...
