Yes, I believe we are moving in that direction in red states with their book bans and removal of lgbt support of both gay and trans children. It's not great. It just forces kids back into the closet or drives them to commit suicide as they feel they have no support.

It kind of defeats the purpose of teaching kids to learn how to think for themselves, AKA critical thinking skills. You need to give kids enough to educate themselves and move forward in the world as independent thinkers, not blindly obedient sheep. That means also learning about things that you find objectively morally reprehensible.
