Did you know that banks are canceling customers at record rates for their "political views"?

Internal documents showed that bank executives declared Nigel Farage a “reputational risk” because of his support for Trump, friendship with unvaccinated tennis star Novak Djokovic, and opposition to totalitarian gender ideology. (Sounds like a corporate-enforced, Chinese-style, social credit system.)

Reports suggest that banks most often appear to close accounts if customers oppose totalitarian gender ideology. Yorkshire Building Society, the UK’s third-largest such financial institution with three million customers, recently admitted to canceling customers who “discriminate in any way.” (Of course THAT, in itself, isn't discrimination. irony)

UK financial watchdog the Financial Conduct Authority revealed last week, in response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request, that in 2016–2017 banks shut down about 45,000 accounts and the number has been increasing every year. In 2021–2022 British banks closed just over 343,000 accounts, an average of over 1,000 accounts every business day.

(Are we entering the age when citizens are cancelled from society for having varying views and opinions? Can you say totalitarianism?)

I won't be surprised if it has happened. Bitterness can make you do many things. In India, a Muslim woman who chose to cover herself up under a niqab was denied an entry by the security guard. Imagine having grudge against women who choose to dress modestly.

I want to know how the banks know anything about their customers views or political affiliation. All they care about is making money off of loans and people paying interest on their credit cards. Other than that they should know nothing about you other than that if you pay your loan payments on time.

@Daniela1982 there are banks that go on social media to check you out before giving you a loan. The people you have as Facebook friends can affect your credit score if you have a lot of dead beats as friends.

These shitlarks like Farage think they are influencers and as unelected politicians they can boss around anyone, and everyone must accept them. When, historically, it's when little Mussolini's and Franco's like Farage and Trump get power, that conflicts and divisions start happening.

A bank is just a business like any other. It can refuse service on many grounds. That they have been honest, is something to be commended, not condemned.

Far right fake news has the mission of making its consumers as stupid as possible by stuffing them with fake rage and fake victimhood. They pointedly do not have the mission of conveying an objective representation of reality. They say whatever they need to to maximize anger, with no interest in whether or not what they say is true.
