What do you think of Governor of Oregon removing requirements for reading, writing, and math, to help students of color graduate?

For the next five years, an Oregon high school diploma will be no guarantee that the student who earned it can read, write or do math at a high school level.

It's just pitiful. My husband's mom has worked in a Wednesday night church kids program for over a decade now, specifically with 2nd graders. She said every year since they did something similar in our state, the level of kids reading ability has gotten a little bit worse. I've been helping her out the last couple of years, and it's incredible the amount of second graders who either can barely read or flat out cannot read. But to be honest, I cannot really blame the public school system. If their parents gave a damn about them, those kids would know how to read.
