I think a gift card would be better. Babies come in difference sizes and the clothes might be too big or too small for the child. Diapers and other things might also be too big or too small for the child. Also most people with wider social networks have friends that will donate clothes and baby care supplies if the parent cannot afford it themselves so overlapping what friends already do for free is an unnecessary use of government funds that could be redirected to more beneficial projects such as gift cards where the parent can buy what they need and not what the majority needs such as standard sized clothes and not extra large or extra small.
There's vouchers in the box too
It would be better if they were purely vouchers. That might be $60 - $120 of unnecessary clothes that don't fit properly.
So I am being trolled on a daily basis by a jobless person with many fake accounts so I block suspicious people who post responses to me.
That is soo amazing for new parents. Wish they had that in the US but there are so many anti baby-kid people here so that'd never happen 😕
Nice idea but presumably it costs the tax payer about 80 grand per box, also the delivery of these boxes should be 'just in time' i. e. the day you deliver your alive baby, i don't think it is helpful to give a box like this to a mother who lost her child but she probably had a bunch of other baby stuff anyway, even so it is clearly wasteful and perhaps even harmful to have given this to an expectant mother who is unfortunate.
This is going to be very popular in most Western and Asian countries as their leaders realize without more kids there is no country. The global birth rate is lower than it’s ever been in history. As people age out of childbearing age we’re going to witness a pretty significant drop in population.
more like it is a direct attempt at "trying" to encourage parenthood...
gonna be fun with the global economic breakdown.
and maybe kids will be up for sale just as they were during the great depression.
no matter how many baby boxes you are gonna get, it's not a good time to get kids..
@DarkWinterNights - what Asian countries are we talking about? What when China, India, etc has far excessive population.
@BlackBeauty90, Yup, but it’s the replacement rate you have to understand. Every couple needs at least 2 kids to replace them. 3 for population growth. The majority of people have no kids. Especially in China, whose one child policy probably doomed them decades ago. Over the next 20-30 years there will be 1 child being born for every 50, 100, 1000 older people dying. It’s such a slow process that people won’t realize until it’s already in full swing. It’s not the end of the world, but it will be the end of some cultures and countries when their economies collapse. I believe India just recently fell below the replacement rate as well. To my knowledge, with the exception of a few countries left in Africa, every other country on earth is below replacement to some degree.

it's great. wonderful low cost display that people are supported.
That's really thoughtful for a new parent. The box contains many useful items.
@purplepoppy You're not dropping any hints, are you?
Nope I just recall how gag went ape shit over free tampons and wanted to see how this went down.

If Scotland wants to save money on baby boxes they should hand out these boxes instead.
Great idea!! We cannot have that in the US because the right-wing would could complain about the cost.
With all that crap crammed in there you're never going to fit a baby too
It sounds like a good idea. A bit late with the condoms, though.
Not really. You know how many give birth and between 9 weeks and 3 months later, they are finding out they are pregnant again.
Sounds like a good idea. I like using the empty box as a crib. Use everything but the squeal
I just love EVERYTHING that's for free.
Can't wait to practice to get me one :D
We get those in NSW Australia except the mattress but we don't get our gift bag until after we have had the baby.
I applaud it. The Scots look after their own. Usually at the expense of the English.
Aye, we treat new mothers properly and give them a leg up... pun not intended!
It’s beautiful and a good start for your parents.
It’s a nice gesture, but somebody still gotta pay for it
As an English taxpayer I object to the expense of it!
My thoughts are broke bums shouldn't be having babies
It's not fukin free. It's taxpayer funded FFS.
Good idea.
There is also one on Sweden.
So many bitter people in the comments lmao
It's a nice idea. We have nothing like that here.
I like that!
