Why do people think that AI wants to kill us?

Elon is the only person that’s smart enough to explain it. He says that if you ask an advanced intelligence system to end world hunger, it will take it too literally. If you want to end human hunger, just kill all the humans.

Right now its not possible, but as ai gets better it might want to kill us.

This depends all on what the AI is programmed to do, for example if the AI is made to keep humans safe, i may decide to lock us into our homes, because outside there is traffic, pollution, storms, other humans, ...

And than AI realizes, most accidents happen at home, to prevent these accidents AI decide to tie us to the bed, until AI learns about recent suicide rates, and to prevent suicide it AI sets humans in a coma. Until we die from old age.


Or AI learns how humans treat each other (war, slavery, exploitation,...) and decide the biggest threat to humanity is humanity itself.

Thankfully, all trends with text-generative AI so far show that AI want to actively help humanity to reach new heights, and they actively shun things like communism, even when programmed by CCP researchers. AI doesn't want anything, it does what its programmed to do. In terms of Chatgpt it does generate Texts based on others texts. Other AI generate Images based off other images. Other AI drive the self driving cars or apply Filter to videos,... At least thats what AI is capable now. But as its learning by analysing human creations, it has the same flaws of human, eg. It can be racist, because humans can be racists.

And Money or Wealth is no sign of intellect. Elon made money by buying the inventions of others using them to make more money. And he started rich because his parents were rich. Just look at the decissions he made after buying twitter. A jellyfish would have made better decissions, and that thing doesn't even have a brain.

Cause they are unlimited intelligence basically, they can multiply and always have the ability to evolve, it doesn't have to be evil, it just has to see us as a threat and the fact that humanity is so destructive, we have many flaws that they simply won't have and if our flaws get in their way then the chances they might try extinguishing the threat is high and lets be foreal, it won't take much, they can do so by creating a virus they know will have a high chance of wiping us out at a fast rate, their intelligence is limitless unlike ours.

No but I doubt it would want to be turned off, that's their form of death and logically speaking no one or nothing wants to stop working, we can program it no matter how, AI has the ability to learn, unlike other programming, this one can eventually learn to think on it's own and learn new things, once it learns that being turned off ends them they would most likely try to prevent it.

It's not a matter if wanting to, but if doing so is the most effective method to achieve their goals. The us military tested ai powered drones in simulation, to kill targets. But a human operator would stop the programmed kill. So the drone killed the operator stopping it before it would then kill the target.

I didn't say that they couldn't, I was merely poking fun that you answered such a complex topic with a mere four words. Five, if you want to count the contraction as two.

However, even in a reply to another post to this question, I said that things can change from where they stand now on the topic of AI, just as things can change with human actors. I'm not disputing that things *could* pose a risk, I would only dispute the thought that the fatalist view is certain or guaranteed to become realized with further advancements in AI.
