Body Positivity. Your thoughts?

Question

It only applies to women. Why?

You don’t see fat male mannequins, or fat male models.

It is because for the most part if a guy tells his friend “hey man, you’re putting on some weight.”

Most guys would go “yeah man, you’re right. I need to change that”

But women scoff and say “how dare you call me fat”

Thus, the concept was created.

This is such an original question. But you're right. Nobody has obese male models or promotes body positivity for men.

I think some guys do think fat women are sexy, but I don't think that's where the body positivity movement came from. I understand that it started as a "Fat Acceptance" movement in the 1960s.

The reason women grasped onto it might have to do with the fact that women, more so than men, come in a wide range of natural shapes, and their figures are formed by healthy, natural fat stored in their boobs, hips, butts and thighs. Some very fit women have very large asses and thighs. That's okay. But it's not the same as obesity and unhealthy fat.

Factors like hormones and pregnancy can also cause women to gain weight.

I know that, because women come in a wide range of sizes - small boobs, large boobs, wide hips, narrow waists - they have a hard time finding clothes that fit. Maybe their complaints reached the ears of clothing designers.

I like the concept of body positivity, but too many people aren't looking at it realistically for both the supporters and haters.

People should be comfortable in their bodies no matter how it looks, since that shit will worsen with age no matter how fit you are. It's best to be comfortable with that.

However, A LOT of people use that idea as an excuse to be unhealthy in that movement to a blinding degree. I think if a fat person says their body is beautiful that's fine, but they should be still working to having healthy habits. It doesn't need to be perfect, as just putting effort into is enough. Being fat itself doesn't mean you're unhealthy, but it's similar to smoking in that it can cause you to be unhealthy.

I don't see fat male models in most fashion mags but they're all over the mail/online catalogs: Land's End, Brooks Bros., etc.

The reason the positivity thing caught on for women has been that fat women have been denigrated for FOREVER. Fat men haven't been embarrassingly ridiculed like women have been. And Fat meant POWER among men. With women, fat meant sloppiness and laziness.

I suppose it's about male power in general. Any reason to strip women of primacy has been used. So the positivity movement has been to add power to fat women's bodies.

Think of all the hairy, bald fat guys roving around beaches in Speedos since time immemorial. Now fat, hairy, bald women can rove around beaches in bikinis and look just as not-great, but feel good about themselves. I guess this is a step forward. ahem.

If people would leave fat people alone there wouldn't be body positivity.. If people want to be fat let them..
Guys can't be emotional because they would be bullied so they don't make it known they want to feel accepted too.. hence them not having a space.. women will whine and whinge because a lot of our value lies in our looks..

Women bodies are their only value evolutionary wise. A man can be physically ugly but rich or high in status and the best women will mate with him. If a woman is ugly she won't pass on her gene, die or mate with a beta male and have weak offspring. Women are very insecure about their looks and its a red line and can cause them a lot of issues

Obesity is off the rails. But change happens when humans feel good and have god thoughts about themselves. So body positivity is ONLY a good thing.

Women will still want to be skinny like runway models. Having more body positivity won’t guys or gals ok with being obese.
