I didn’t know this was a thing. Well, one glance at the photos in my profile and the name Exterminatore, which is Latin for exterminator should give a hint.


I think about it quite often. Depending on the period of the empire I find their culture to be superior to our own. The Roman Empire was the mother of western civilization. Much of their ways and that empire has been handed down to us. Though now it is diluted.


The article states the many French words in English, yes, which were based on Latin and brought to England with the Norman conquest in 1066. I’d guess probably 30% or so of words in English have a Latin root. Few are unchanged and simply pronounced differently. For example prescription to break that word down we have pre which means before, and scription comes from the root word scribo which mean to write or more properly I write. From the Latin word scribo we get 2 other words in English, scribe and scripture. Just a few examples.


Their architecture was unmatched in durability and beauty, their language is beautiful and is the basis for 4 other languages. Their technology was amazing. Militarily the were astounding and ingenious. It was the Empire that committed diacide, yet was the birth place of Christianity. I think what I like about it’s culture most is that it was patriarchal which is sensible and preferable to the status quo.

I also forgot to state I’ve been learning to speak, read, and write Latin for about a year and a half now, not counting some of the Ecclastical Latin I learned in my youth.

The Language is much more enjoyable to me than English and it is making a comeback. I’d love for there one day to be a large pocket of people who speak Latin.
