Am I the only one here who loves our age and all the comforts of modern life it offers us?

I'm a history buff and for some things I think the past was better, but to be honest I wouldn't want to live in those times for anything in the world.

I see a lot of people say things like "it was better before". For me it's really not the case, I bless this era for all the modernity and comfort it offers us. Mind you, I'm not saying there are no problems. Of course, our era isn't perfect and there are plenty of things to criticize, but when I see what's happened in the past, I feel pretty lucky.

Comforts? But at what cost? It is great to have the things we have, but the cost in pollution to make them makes me wonder just how great they really are if we all get cancer as a result, and if we trash out planet in the process.

They have never suffer. Especially Americans… many are spoiled compared to the rest of the world… they have no idea how others live … the best … they have first world problems.
I was looking at my elderly mom… thinking about the first half of her life living in a country where there wasn’t running water or a toilet and no refrigerator or tv or electricity and not enough food to get by…. to today… that she is older but living in luxury… then I think about her mom who never had what she has.
europeans has it much harder than those in the US. I know many who have come to the US, stayed and making the big bucks…would not have been if they stayed in England or France.

It sure is more difficult to make a living now a days, life was simpler not even 10 years ago. Plus we are more consumeristic. We love more material things than helping our fellow neighbors. Back in the day they were a lot more racist/prejudice, however they wouldn’t hesitate to help a person that was broken down, or knew how to change a tire, or would help brake up a fight if need be. Now, if something or someone is getting hurt. They would rather film it than actually help someone. This is why I’d probably cast my vote to a later timeline.. this generation is becoming more and more useless.

Nope, I like to be able to drive my truck and watch movies on my 75 inch TV and I just had central air conditioning installed in my house a few months ago. Microwave ovens are awesome and WiFi is amazing. I have bluetooth headphones that I can stream music from my cell phone and listen to music while I sit on my riding lawn mower.

I love the fact that we have many choices and opportunities. People tend to glorify the past and remember mostly the good things. It’s actually a psychology phenomenon called rosy retrospective.

People tend to view history through the eyes of the rich and powerful. The Georgian in his mansion, the medieval lord munching on swan legs in his castle, the Roman being fed grapes by naked slaves. People forget most ordinary people had short miserable lives.

I can break just about whatever I have and have same or next day replacement delivered to my house. Medical and veterinary care is leaps and bounds beyond where it was even ten years ago. I'm all for nostalgia and everything, but I'm not exactly looking for a wormhole to go back.

I was happier in the nineties without the eternal internet bullshit, otherwise I agree with you. My grandparents had a farm without hot water, their parents even without electricity. Life definitely was harder.

The comfort that you are speaking of exists only in United States, NATO and few other nations. The rest of the world population, which is majority, have no ways of experiencing all the luxuries that you talk about.

I actually do. I'd like to experience living in the past but I think that technology wise this generation has so much to offer, is so much more convenient and things are so much easier than they were 10, 20, 30 years ago.

Despite the problems we face, this is the safest, most well-fed, and most comfortable era in human history for the majority of people on the planet. We are lacking in purpose and social connections compared to our ancestors, though.

Yeah, do I love AC and clean water, absolutely. But we as humans have lost our connection to the natural world to our detriment. Our biological evolution is not matched to our technical evolution. We are still animals despite our technology.
