I do that government shutdowns should be illegal. They are useless and cause harm to people!!
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yYou do know that the so called "Goverment shutdown" is simply running on actual Tax Revenue for a short time rather than racking up new dept? Adding more inflationary fuel to the fire, as well as paying people to take away our natural rights.
Even if that were not the case If the goverment were allowed to spend infinite amounts of money without the approval of the legislator's consent we would have a dictatorship.Already they fill theses "budget" bills will soo many things we effectively live under a dictatorship of the men who write the only bills we can vote on anyway. Congressman can at best quibble on one or 2 issues if a majority is willing to rally against that issue or anther.
In light of that fact restricting the goverment at least run on the taxes collected what they call a "Goverment shutdown" is the bare minimum decent thing to do.
The politicians that cause a goverment shutdown are the only ones who should be reelected. The rest should be thrown out of office for NOT doing their job and rubber stamping countless trillions in spending on nasty things INCLUDING COVID-19 development.

Government is a business unlike any other, mainly as a lot of business, non-businesses, and the public, rely on it's functions. But we see in countries like Northern Ireland where the government has been shut down for 3 years and counting, that countries can still function without a working government.
The USA for all it's bravo is too chickenshit to try something new. Hence why you keep making the same mistakes.

Indeed there are soo many useless non-critical areas of the Federal Goverment which can be abandoned all together or even just suspended without notice.
That It is mere vindictiveness or absurd amounts of incompetents by a president if anyone even notices a Federal Goverment Shutdown.
Remember when Obama decided to spend all that money fencing off all the national monuments during a goverment shut down?
It would be Joe Biden who is choosing to not allocate funding to important agencies because he wants all his pet projects funded instead. There is plenty of money for the military, and even the parks. Likewise it hardly matters at all the IRS takes a break auditing, nor countless other things that could be stooped and resumed without a hitch Joe Biden is choosing to allocate money to instead.

+1 yWell, we know where you stand on debt, government waste, ever expanding government budgets, useless programs that will never go away, more and more and more government spending and the actual taxpayers and citizens keeping the majority of what we work for.
Since the debt is in the trillions and the spending and these lying crooks just finding endless new ways to get more taxes and spend more of our money... most of these "SHUTDOWNS" always revolve around... the budget/spending has gone up even more in the last year and we have to go FURTHER into debt to pay for all of this shit. Everyone let's vote to just go further into debt.
Anyone who pushes back and says we need to reign in spending and not go into debit is vilified by nitwits like you who don't have any common sense. You sounds like a freaking fascists with the "throw them in jail" idiocy.
The constitution laid out what the government mainly was funded for. To guarantee and protect the rights of the citizens, defense of the country against outside threats, infrastructure, judges, firefighters, police and some other main functions.
The government is so bloated and wasteful and everyone is such a corrupt lying piece of shit in government, they all want to get more money and waste more and more of it.
Plus, they are manipulative. Their manipulation works on simpletons like you. They don't threaten to "shut down" the most useless, wasteful parts of the government. The really bureaucratic parts. They intentionally try to scare the sheep by talking about passing over the billions wasted in worthless programs and say stuff like, we've got to let the murderers out or we can't fund the fire department so everyone's homes will just burn. They are such corrupt liars.

Technically its a borrowing bill. The politicians are workign overtime to lie when they call it a "goverment shutdown" as its merely running on revenue which means that small fraction of the Federal goverment which the president chooses stops doing work for a while.
Its petty presidents like Obama and Joe who tend to pick things like parks and the military to use as political pawns rather than shutting down an alphabet unneeded and undesirable agencies who could easily just pause their work for a while.
Almost none of which are even allowed under the Federal Constitution and Nealy all of which would never be missed except by politicians like Joe selling their power.

+1 yDid you know those wasters get paid even when the government is shut down? That doesn't make any sense at all but they make the rules so what you gonna do?
00 Reply 8.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Please, a government shutdown was probably the best thing the government has done in long time.
00 ReplyIf you don't like it, then, vote against them. It's that simple

Who exactly would you vote for? That's the problem with a state which does everything. There exist no person beyond yourself who is agreeable on every policy issue of power they have usurped to themselfs.

setting aside the fact that the same broad spectrum of power provides them with a nearly insurmountable wealth of favorites to sell to special interest at the expense of everyone else to secure their reelection.
How does that help simply repalcing them, the next guy in the same position will do the same thing and if they don't they will be eventually replaced again by someone who does abuse the same power to remain in power?
The end result is we get a lot of congressmen dying of old age in office, long past the time where they actually could do their job. - +1 y
@monorprise Democracy is a slow process. You should vote for a different candidate. You know something. This is purely for American Politics. Lots of people in US vote based on Republicans and Liberals. What this shows is any tom dick and Harry can win if a certain party has support in the region. We have a saying, "the party is so strong even a pole standing will win". That's exactly what happens in US. I can only presume from what you just wrote now.
Look stop looking at parties or their presidential candidates and start looking at the state level or your local level who is doing better for the people.
This is a widely Urban phenomenon that people look towards a party rather than a candidate himself for votes. In the end, you really don't care who is Biden or Trump but you should care who is the candidate running for office in your county. - +1 y

Democracy works great if goverment is limited so the number of issues being voted on are few enough that to do anything unpopular on any of them is enough to get your voted out on the account of both being noticed and issue of campaign.
In reality all governments grow in power over time for the same reason men are driven to seek power under them. That power invariably corrupts for the reasons given leading to the ultimate decline by incompetents of the same goverment.
Democracy to this end is but a tool to hold such men accountable to the will of the people but only so effective as power being elected is limited to issues that can be debated EVERY election.
There is no 'slow process' here for it is between elections where said issues can even be brought up that the corruption happens.
The more issues elections must therefore rotate among the more degraded and distant from the will of the governed every issue becomes before it has any chance of being addressed in an election.
200 years ago American Constitutional federalism handled the problem better when American goverment was more limited and decentralized allowing for said issues to be handled in different elections.
Where this failed was the ignorance of the people on each office's power, and the power lust of politicians who had no interest in addressing such ignorance except to increase it as to allow them to expand their own power further.
Thus predictably and inevitably the Real constitution fell apart as it always does allowing for the ever more centralization of power in the hands of a few ever more all powerful leaders able to run on cherry picked issues while selling all the rest of their powers.
Missing from this system was a means by which the equally power hungry local leaders formerly holding nearly all theses power to push back and force the central leaders to stick to their constitutional domain.
+1 yAre you suggesting we jail the entirety of congress?
02 Reply- +1 y
I am on board with that, @gorydetails they are nearly all to a man criminals for violating the Constitution. Although refusing to spend money we don't have on a goverment agency not authorized by the Constitution is one of the few things they do which is not illegal.
