What's your opinion about inheritance tax?

I would literally not care if it was set at 100%. Generational wealth is a big problem economically speaking since it puts people at different advantages completely outside their own control and means that the difference between successful people and those who are not has less to do with their personal success and more to do with what their parents and grandparents has done.

The longer it goes on, the larger the gap becomes and the less actual personal performance is counts in society. Without generational wealth we would have a lot more well paying jobs and the people who succeeds would be better qualified.

so where do you think a person's money should go after they die if not to that person's own family? You think government should get back what someone spent a lifetime working to attain? I know you have socialist beliefs, but I'm genuinely curious how you can think that anyone other than a person's family is entitled to what someone spent their life accruing. Is that part of the whole "you'll own nothing and like it" way of thinking? Are you really saying we should have a "great reset" on a person's lifetime of achievements when they die, so nobody benefits from the way they chose to live their life?

I see the socialism here, thinking that everyone is entitled to get a piece of everyone else's pie, regardless of their own input, but I don't see the benefit to society. What then encourages people to work hard, start business, innovate and create if everyone who sits on their butt watching tv and being welfare sponges will receive the same benefits for less work? In that case, the ones who do the least, receive the greater % of return for their efforts. And you call that fair?

@BlackAndBlueBalls Where should a persons money go after they die? Well, its their money so why does it not "die" with them? I mean seriously, by your own argument, why should the children of a hard working person be entitled to that persons hard work when they did not do anything to earn it?

I am not arguing from the viewpoint of socialism here, I am arguing from the viewpoint of meritocracy. Where political power and goods are distributed on the grounds of your talent and work rather than having a rich father who died and gave you a lifetime of luxury. How is it fair that someone is given a better life than you because their parents were more successful, no matter how hard you work in life they will always be ahead of you for something that you have no control over.

I yearn to live in a world in which I'm not a mere tax slave to the 'elected' 'representatives' I did not vote for and who resent me. Out of all the legalized extortion schemes, the inheritance one might just be the worst. Live your life having to work just to pay a tax on the property you've already been taxed on when you bought it, paid for with the money that's already been taxed when you earned said money, which will be further taxed whenever you try to spend it. Finally you die, you wanna leave your children with the few pennies satanists didn't steal (yet), only to find that your kids will be taxed for the privilege of losing their parent. But hey, could be worse, at least I'm a 'free' man.

Put the house in their name, an account in their name etc. My husband says that the government sees any money or property ordinary tax payers have like wages, savings, inheritance, property, pensions or anything they might buy as a pot of money they can dip their fingers in any time.

Inheritance tax is not applicable in my country and it should be abolished world around.

If government thinks someone is wealthy then just tax the heirs on their income just like it taxes the parents or the deceased when he was alive.

Government finds ways to get money from its citizens, and inheritance tax is one of them. In the US, most people don't pay an inheritance tax because the minimum is so high, over a million dollars.
