It’s meant to help the spouse who might have sacrificed their career or earnings during the marriage to support the other or the family.
Typically the one who's financially weaker at the time of divorce is who gets it. How much and for how long should be proportional to how long the marriage lasted and the standard of living during it. We don’t want someone live off their ex forever but instead to give them a leg up until they can support themselves.
Social circumstances like remarrying or cohabiting can could be reasons to cut off alimony. Pets are usually considered property, but maybe there's room for pet support if one person is taking care of a shared pet.
Amen to all this
Why would I want to support a woman who put me through hell in a divorce taking half if not all I have? Fuck that, ban alimony
Right it's clesrly about misandry and supporting women at every turn even the shitty ones
Doubt you'd even know if it were
What makes you think that's not the intention here?
If there is a child, alimony is given, but it is not given outside of that child, because otherwise that person is a money hunter and I do not find it right.
But what if a girl just uses a guy to have a kid and has no love for him. There are girls like that out there.
If there is a child, alimony must be paid in any way, but as I said, if there is no child, alimony should never be paid.
And how long should it last?
When the child turns 18, he should stop giving it to the mother and give it to the child himself.
I can see paying child support, however, alimony should be a limited period. It should allow someone time to go to school (if they were a stay at home parent) and take some courses to prepare for a new job. It should not be something that is indefinite or till the other person marries.
Merci beacoup👍
One year limits should be the law. Past that, it's literal slavery. Legitimately a violation of the 13th amendment. Forced labor with no conviction. A civil divorce hearing is not a conviction.

It’s oppression against men. Alimony needs to be banned in every state in the US. If women claim to want to be “equal” to men, start by banning alimony. They won’t.
the guy should pay it is my opinion
