All patriarchy means is that most men have more power and money than most women. More men own big businesses than women. More men are CEOs at fortune 500 companies than women by a giant percentage: something like 14% to 86%.

Though more women graduate college than men, high-school educated men make as much, if not more, than college-educated women.

Women are recently being trained and accepted into construction, plumbing, electrical jobs and heavy equipment jobs where they were not welcome because, these were jobs for "men to support their families with." As if women didn't have families to support!

Patriarchy means more men run our society and create the rules for it than women. If we don't live in a patriarchy then 50 percent of our congress people would be women. They aren't.

Patriarchies also want to bestow child care and award children to women despite a father being a more appropriate parent. They also don't allow men chances to be good parents because men are "expected" to work more than women and NOT be caregivers.

Patriarchies disadvantage men as much as they disadvantage women.

Job, parenting and role equity are best for men and women. Neither patriarchy nor matriarchy. Egalitarian societies should be what we seek. There's nothing wrong with seeking or living more conservative or traditional roles, if that's a personal choice.

But this flexibility exists within egalitarianism. It doesn't exist without a fight, such as women's liberation or feminism, within patriarchies. And feminism and women's liberation are considered dirty words. But ask most men if they'd like to be women. If there are a host of "nos" you have your answer.

And because of how the systems work: long hours for male dominated work, of course women don't choose to do such jobs because they have children to take care of: another fallout from patriarchy. And the flip side of this is that men are away from the home and can't contribute domestically.

It's not solely that women have different interests. It's that childcare has been relegated to women because of patriarchy. Men have more power simply because they are men, especially in certain career choices.

We certainly should have nearly equal representation in politics and business. But because men hold the reins of power and male privilege and do keep women out of such positions because they are the people who hire and fire women, this hasn't happened. There have been incremental changes.

So, it would have to be a self-assured, ready to deal with a "male dominated" workplace, and men, who, most likely, have not had to work with women.

I'd love to know what statistics you're quoting that state single women make more money than single men. Must be in some limited career/work capacities. Because last I heard, a few months ago, women are still not paid the same for the same work. I mean, identical work. Women doctors, lawyers, nurses are paid less than their male counterparts in the same jobs: surgical nurse, general practitioner... etc. It's very close in those particular fields, but still equal.

And one of the biggest cutoffs happens when women decide to have a child. It upends their careers because their male partners still do not take on 50 percent of the childcare and domestic issues that crop up with family life.

This is where patriarchy screws everyone. It rigidly funnels males and females into traditional roles that hamper both from fully enjoying all aspects of life: parenting, time off from work, not being wed to a job/career, work/ life balance, time to be creative, volunteer to help their community.

@Joshydavid25 I read current statistics about where women are working. Not some bubble from the 1970s. I work at a job in a furniture store where I work with men. They are younger men, but the reason I do well at this job is because I know how to use power tools and climb ladders and I DO get dirty. It's a warehouse furniture store that is not air-conditioned.

I was raised to take care of my car and my house and I can paint, change my oil, check my tires and do minor car maintenance, as well as paint, repoint bricks, reglaze windows, patch walls. I've painted the outside of my house once. Pretty grueling job. I paid someone to sand it. Since most women, in general, are about 30% weaker than most males, esp. in upper body strength, doing manual labor is difficult.

This is the general reason why there are fewer women in trades that require such strength. They literally could not "carry their weight." I am strong for my size, (5'2") and age simply because I've made it a point to do strength training so I can do some work around my home, such as clean out my gutters once or twice a year, climb up and down ladders, carefully, do minor sanding and painting, keep a veg garden. I can wield a pickax and have done so to plant grass seed in the past two weeks. The ground is hard, full of lake shells and needs to have weeds pulled and cut out. I mow my own lawn, too. I own a power washer and use it. I can wield a weedeater.

There are women who don't want to do these things. I do and have, and I save money. I can't do it all. It is time-consuming and physically demanding. But I take great pride in being able to do this. Maybe most women weren't exposed to a father and mother who valued independence. These are the people I come from.

And you have to realize that though STEM and blue collar training programs are open to women, until it's stressed that the pay and benefits from these jobs and careers mean a woman can support herself and her family on her own and this won't emasculate the man in her life, if she has one..

This is what is missing. Also, if women don't see women like themselves in these positions, it is hard to be a groundbreaker. I've always been confident enough to go my own way. But men are still surprized I'm not afraid to climb a ladder, use a chainsaw or other power tools, drive a boat, fish or hunt ducks.

Until women are encouraged to be self-sufficient, to take on work challenges, to use mind and body and to take pride in the ability to do both, men and women are both cheated.

What you're talking about women having power is about abuse of power. There is something called child care. That makes it possible for both parents to work outside the home. I don't know what most women want. There's nothing wrong with a man staying home if it suits him and if the woman prefers to work and has a lucrative job. Similarly, if good child care exists, both parents can work. If grandparents are available they can help. My parents did after school pickups when my son was older. But when he was a toddler, he was in preschool/child care. And aftercare some days after school.

And again, it is difficult for a woman to get into politics for all the former reasons you mention, which, again, are linked to a patriarchal structure that expects a woman to stay home to perform all domestic duties in a partnership.

I also said, where are you getting your statistics. About "most" and "many." Are these simply opinions, or are they based on statistical surveys and the number of actual men who stay home to perform domestic duties while their partners work? Maybe more men would stay home if their wives were paid better at their jobs, eh? And after a 12-hour workday, I don't think any partner would expect their partner to jump to domestic duties. There is the fact that that would be unreasonable, wouldn't it? I'm talking about 8 hour a day jobbers.

It is NOT obvious that fewer women want to be in Congress than men. What is obvious is that it is more diffcult for women to get into politics because of societal expectations. Just as it is more difficult for men to be considered "real men" if they choose to stay home to raise children and take care of the home.

I have no evidence either way , other than to say I'm not going to judge what works for others , of course it can work however , and having spoken to a number of women who lived in similar ( a subdivision I sold ) , many were quite happy with one night a week , or a couple per month , they told me in this circumstance they were guaranteed more sexual action than otherwise , the mensal cycle even changes , and synced with the others to make circumstances work better within the group.

But, it was only in the past 200+ years that the human impact on the environment began to change those conditions. Given the world as it is and the number of humans on it, unless humans change, we are in danger of near extinction if not extinction. That's naïve. First, it's ALL women. Second, to reproduce, males and females need each other. Third, "killing at distance" is not all that simple. If it were, then militant feminists would be killing male chauvinist pigs wholesale. That's not happening.

In the novel, women are quickly rising into positions of power throughout the world. But, it was the final "sex war" at the end that led to The Cataclysm. And, just like what you first wrote, with women then being the dominant physical sex, the world in the framing story (5000 years from now) is similar to today's world but with women being the dominant sex.

@abc3643 Humans are not even close to extinction. I can only think of four things that would greatly reduce our population. A very large asteroid. But we would know about those decades in advance. However, if it was one of the 200 100km asteroids, more or less, there is nothing we could. Humans and almost all species would cease to exist. However, the probability of that is near zero. We could probably divert a 10 km asteroid and there may be thousands of those. Regardless, a million humans would survive.

An Ice Age which most likely will happen between now and the next 5,000 years. Billions would die but billions survive. Probably 50% will die.

Yellowstone or another super-volcano. If it is Yellowstone, then half of the USA will die, and billions more.

Nuclear War: Billions would die but millions would survive. However ther mammals and birds may not. Radiation from nuclear bombs is short-lived. Humans only need to avoid the radiation for about two weeks.

These are things I have thought about off and on for a year. There is no probable scenario I can image where humans would not survive.
