Do you think its best to always carry a gun while out in public or just carry when at certain locations and time of day or night it is out in public?

I think carrying all the time especially in the day time and in particular if you aren't a thug or involved in something illegal is pushing it too much and comes off as a bit paranoid.

Most criminals much rather prefer doing their evil and crimes when it becomes dark outside anyways so I think carrying at night out in public is best and more reasonable.

I think it's best to not carry at all.

When the worst case scenario is you or someone you love dying, I don't think it makes sense to carry something specifically designed to kill people. You're more likely to shoot yourself, someone you care about, an innocent stranger, or maybe a thief—not a murderer—especially the more often you carry it.

I've only been in a handful of situations where having a gun could actually have been beneficial, considering the risk, but even then I think I prefer the outcome without a gun than possibly shooting someone I know, or even a stranger wearing a wedding ring. I don't believe in the death penalty for any crime, and for the most part, I can defend myself without a deadly weapon.

I look at it in a lot of different ways when you do carry it depends on how discipline the person is that is carrying it.

It depends on the reasons why the person is carrying it

But for me I'm not going to answer this question yet it's just not that time

When people see other people carrying in the weapon

One thing leads to another to another to another either positive or negative ways

When the world changes bad enough to where we all have to carry weapons we're all in deep s*** anyway

It all depends on risk. If your city has a lot of violent crime, then carry. If not, then your probably fine leaving it at home in your gun safe to protect your homestead when you need it and you can likely get home during a catastrophic event. In Miami you have roughly 50 violent crimes a day with a reasonable portion being gun violence that could negatively impact your life. In large population centers, you are also at high risk for terrorist attacks that can come suddenly. In some smaller towns in Florida you have 1 violent crime every couple days and it is most often a domestic dispute which isn't going to impact your life. Use your judgement and act accordingly.

I can carry but don't need to right now. I do know that had I been allowed to open carry in the liberal gun free city I grew up in there would have been no bother with criminals, as its usuallythe case that a criminal won't risk getting shot. It would be one thing if they were just going to mug you but they may assault& kick you into intensive care or to death. Where I grew up it was safer serving in Iraq or Afghanistan during the war on terror.

I keep a ruger LCR revolver in my car at all times and have a couple of glocks for carrying.

I believe in the 2nd Amendment but I still believe in form gun control. We have too many nut jobs in this country. Also , guns are not toys and I think people need to be vetted in order to have a gun - especially in public. As far as carrying out in public one is free to do so - at least in Texas and I don't think in all circumstances - but it is not something I would do since it attracts way too much attention and makes a lot of people nervous. It is like walking around with big wads of cash; you are free to do so but it may not be a wise idea since it can attract too much attention.

The best way to stay out of trouble is to stay out of sight.

I know that crime doesn't set appointments, and the variable you mention (day/night) is not really significant. I'd definitely rather have it and not need it, my life is worth it. As far as the paranoid thing I saw a quote once that I'll paraphrase:

Having a concealed Carry permit is perfectly ok to have. When you have a concealed carry permit you are properly trained to utilize a pistol. I have been properly taught how to use a weapon. I also know when to pack and when to keep the weapon at home. I have never had to use my weapon.

If you have a CCW or your state has Constitutional Carry you should carry all the time, because it is sods law the time you need it you'll have left it at home if you do not habitually carry, That is what I did when I lived in the US for ten years.

That's not how it works at all. Some very specific criteria must be met before even drawing your weapon. Deadly force is further down the continuum and only to be used if death or serious injury are eminent.

I carry OC spray everywhere. There is a large gap between verbal confrontation and lethal force. That gap should not be solved with a firearm. OC spray or a taser (which I think is what you are alluding to) fill this gap nicely. I'm 52 and can take care of myself, but I know I'm not going to be winning many street fights against younger dudes. OC mitigates that problem.

My gun shoots hard plastic balls or pepper spray balls. I have 2 hard balls loaded first then the pepper balls. They get 2 warning shots then get blasted with pepper. It will not kill them but it will definitely immobilize them.

One of my oldest friends has 20 years in law enforcement (and counting) He trains officers on the use of tasers and OC spray. I asked him which was worse for the suspect and without hesitation he said OC spray. Tasers have to have certain conditions or they are not effective. I've never heard of the defense tool you carry. Most guns won't discharge if they hit the ground. If you are carrying one that could you are: really stupid, or a criminal using a poorly maintained, older frearm. (probably both) A proper holster is important too for adequate retention. A responsible concealed carry holder knows and practices all of this.

When some shithead can go out and buy a gun and then accidentally kills five bystanders instead of the thug he was aiming for, that upsets me.

Suicides are much more prevalent than accidental discharge deaths. If a child or someone who shouldn't have access to the firearm kills someone that is on the owner. Not a common event by the way.
