On the night of Sept. 19, 2021, Black guy complimented his white girlfriend and continued to harass them. When the white girlfriend rejected his advances and said enough, he attacked them. White guy panicked and defended his girlfriend and himself by dislodging his fire arm and killing him.

Media picked up the story as "white man killing black man for being nice to white woman" and public opinion then ran with it and saw the white guy as just some racist supremist who killed a black guy for no reason. aka "He a good boy. He didn't do NOTH'IN"

Sounds like the guy was harassing his girlfriend, but shooting and killing a guy for being a harassing asshole sounds like manslaughter. The black guy wasn't "innocent," but he didn't deserve to be killed.

This is the kind of overreacting we hear the police doing all the time. The mentally ill man with iced tea who was reported by a white woman as acting "suspiciously" while walking past her house was killed by police because he refused to cooperate with them. He had walked that path for years from the convenience store to his apartment. But someone sees a black man and immediately, he's suspicious. A black man annoys a white woman and her boyfriend shoots him. Would a white man annoying a white woman get shot? Would the cops harass an iced-tea carrying white 24 year old with mental health issues and kill him when he resisted arrest?

Remember the black runner who was chased down and killed by three men in a truck because someone "suspicious" had been seen at a home construction site the black man decided to look at? And come to find out, the runner, who the men who chased him down killed, wasn't the black man who'd been seen earlier. Another black man dead because he was seen by a white person and deemed "dangerous."

This is about racism and fear. White people think black people are dangerous and want to kill them, so they decide to strike first. Black people are all criminals. The list goes on. Because there's crime among poor black people doesn't mean all black people are poor, all black people are criminals, all black people want to kill white people.

This harkens back to the guilt surrounding slavery, and the old fear that, "niggers want to kill us in our beds" because we're their masters... And because we're essentially still a segregated society.

IT's a wicked problem. So many issues.

But 10 years for taking a human life isn't much. He'll likely only serve 5. MIght even be fewer with good behavior. I'm sorry for him. But his actions were overarching and foolish. Guns never solve problems. They exacerbate them. This is a prime example.

Seems like as this was 2 years ago he would have had an appeal in. If I had been on the jury, I would have voted to acquit him for self-defense. But then more details would have helped, but if he attacked them when they spurned his advances, to me it might have been justified.

The US is different to the UK and Australia with respect to self defense. We can only use commensurate force. So I will use that standard.

First it seems that a guy started making unwelcome comments with respect to a girl in company with her boyfriend. It seems when a strong objection was made he became angry and attacked them.

I am reading it as the guy had a handgun which the boy friend took from him due to the use of the word dislodged. I further assume the guy had the hand gun in his hand for it to be dislodged.

From their it depends on what the guy did once the boyfriend had the gun. If he continued to attack to recover the hand gun, I think the boyfriend was compelled to shoot him to preserve his and his girlfriend's lives. The force used was commensurate to the threat.

If the guy had been knocked to the ground and the boyfriend just plugged him then that would not be commensurate but would have been if the guy got up to continue the fight to get his handgun back.

Maybe I have not got the circumstances right but it seems to me he should not have even been charged. I am a bit surprised he got 10 years for defending his life and his girlfriend.

Seems like an extreme response to kill a man over harassing your girlfriend, don't you think? If you obviously can't take him down because he's physically stronger, just leave or call the cops. You may not "look tough" doing it, but how tough are you now going to jail for 10 years, which will be predominantly populated by black men?

Just harassing a man’s girlfriend isn’t enough to be shot dead in my opinion but if he harassed, made jokes about taking his girl cause he’s white and then went in for a grope or something I think he forfeited his right to safety. Boyfriends, hit the gym and take martial arts so you can subdue your attacker without going to jail for weapon use

If I remember the article correctly, he didn't attack them or just pushed him or something not serious and the white guy shot him dead for it.

He's lucky he only got 10 years which he probably be parole after 4 years for the murder he committed.
