This question is not about affordability since many. If not, most of these houses are unaffordable for the average person. Instead, the question is about is about shockingly aesthetics.

Used to live in CA but it got too hostile to industry and I realized I couldn’t make ends meet. Also never saw such a stark difference between the rich and the poor anywhere else in the US, as well as total obnoxious attitudes in Silicon Valley (bragging about how many jobs they would destroy by being “disruptors”). I also hate the “or” vs. “er” ending to “disruptor.”

There is quite a bit of distance between silicon valley and Los Angeles which is where these photos were taken. Like about 500 miles give or take. This post is not about jobs or costs. It's just about aesthetics and architecture.

Can’t beat the climate by the coast in my opinion and the modern homes in the well off parts of LA are cool for sure.

The climate is generally wonderful, and the ocean is beautiful, in the coastal areas are magnificent. If you like the ocean, I think California or Oregon are the two states to live in. I love living here.

Ordinary californians are being pushed out and those that stay have to survive on low wages and deal with rising crime. Police don't even bother arresting criminals anymore. Big stores like Wallmart and target are closing stores because shoplifting is such a huge epidemic and basically decriminalised

Obviously it is not. This supposed to be simply about aesthetics in the kind of architecture that is seen often in Southern California. It was not about costs and it still isn't about costs. That said, people seem to be focused on costs in this post and have little or nothing to say about beauty. I find that sad.

Who has the money to buy a house like that, especially with the interest rates as they are. It's insane! Zillow says that my house is worth $900,000 for a 3BR 2Ba house with a pool. I have a friend with a 2BR and 1 Ba and his house is worth $720,000. If I sold my house today, I could not afford to buy another in my area. The houses around here are not selling because of the interest rates. But the real reason is, who can afford one with payments of $6,000 or more a month? That is $72,000 a year, just on a house payment! More than most people make here. Ridiculous!

It's quite nice, but if its in the hills, won't it just burn down the next fire. Not sure why they developed an area/habitat that is historically known to need fires in order to survive.

Not sure if this particular home is in an area like that, but, it seems to be a thing almost every year in California.

We have a lot of that in California. Unfortunately. The house is in an area called Bel Air which is very close to UCLA and is highly developed. That said, it is also in the hills north of sunset boulevard and at least in the past there have been some fairly significant fires up there. I suspect the fire insurance for a structure like this is going to be pretty damn expensive. People that can afford houses like this are people that also can't afford to hire private firefighters and they usually do so. This doesn't make it fireproof, but it makes it more likely to survive a brush fire.

You're talking about a 139 million dollar home! Certainly not in 90 percent of people's price ranges. I'm here in shitty Louisiana and people are flocking here from California because the cost of living is too high. This isn't all about Trump.

Most public housing pays for electricity/heating. It is subsidized by the government. I'd do it right. And I'd set up a permanent fund for expenditures like that. I can do it with my giant lottery win... Reminds me to play this Halloween!!!

A 3 BR 2 Ba house can go for a $million here. I have no idea how Mexicans can afford a house here, but somehow, they do as laborers. I can see how the Vietnamese do as they have 4 families living in one house. Can you imagine everyone getting ready for work with just 1 bathroom? 😫

@Daniela1982 My house is 3200 sq feet on 35,000 sq ft lot. It has 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. 2 car garage, big family room and a bonus room I use as a home theater and a home gym. It is on zillow for 1.1 million. Itt is crazy.

Taht is a big lot compared to most new houses that have a 7500 sq. ft. lot. And 3200 sq ft is big. Mine is half that. My house actually sells for more per sq. ft. than yours would. Strange-O change-O!

You were right about this. The house is here. Do not have basements in most cases and I'm not sure why but they just don't build them that way. I think basements might be a cold weather thing and although we do have cold weather here, it's nothing like it is back east.
