This place has gone down hill. Now prostitutes walk brazenly down the streets. You can't drive to the beach and not see it. They must have defunded the police or something. I'm sure a lot of the girls are undocumented immigrants.
1 yI live in a deprived, English Seaside town on the Suffolk Coast.
It's dead here; our 'High Street' (Shopping centre) is not that big, but about 15 big commercial properties have been boarded up. It's full with betting agencies, charity shops and vape shops... We have 3 McDonalds, a Burger King, Taco Bell, Dominos Pizza, Papa John's... Restaurants? They won't stay open for long unless it is a shite Harvester or... lol, Weatherspoon's a restaurant... Weatherspoon's.
I've got nothing against homeless people... I've been homeless 2x myself (though I didn't have to sleep rough)... but they are all hanging out and sleeping in town (It's somewhat safer for them; although they also camp in a wooded area on the outskirts of town).
There's nothing to do for youngsters, and they are roaming the streets like 'Roadman'; kids 10-17 years old with hoods up and balaclavas causing trouble.
It's full with English Nationalist 'Gammons': "The term refers in particular to the colour of a person's flushed face when expressing their strong opinions, as compared to the type of pork of the same name."
The town is covered in bird shit... absolutely hundreds of Seagulls are terrorising the town; I cannot walk outside with my Ferrets without get harassed by the bastards.
There's very little 'Green'; Council in the UK are running out of funds or go bankrupt: Plants need to be maintained which costs money and thus the council decides to rip all plants and trees out of the ground... nothing is being maintained in town, yet the council always has some millions to throw against some new useless project.
Not enough affordable housing.
Not enough jobs; it's a seasonal seaside town. Half the year there are no job to be found and then it gets better close to Summertime with all their shite, low paying jobs.
There is currently still only 1 bridge in town to get from the north to south, or the other way around. Traffic comes to a standstill from +/- 2pm and continues till +/- 5pm. It's worse if the bridge is under maintenance. Now, finally, after 40 years of planning a new bridge is nearly done. But seeing that my town and the town further north are already massively jam packed with traffic, I doubt that '3rd crossing' will have much of an impact.
Police can never be found when you need them; Police station closes after 5pm I believe, and you'll have to phone the police station in the town 12 miles further north. Going to the Police station? There is a phone with a connection to the station in that same town 12 miles away; police officers will not open the door even though there's loads of them inside.
Our MP is an idiot... Rt. Hon. Mr Peter Aldous (looks like a clown)... While admittedly he does better than the most recent Labour candidates, he is still a Tory and thus unfit for purpose.
We have do have a lovely seafront and beach... DO NOT GO INTO THE SEA. Our Sewage waste companies dump billions of litres, gallons probably too, of untreated sewage water in our lakes, rivers and seas. It is f**** disgusting. There is a sewage water treatment plant nearby.
You are in a 'lovely' rural Suffolk seaside town? Don't be surprised to her 'Guv', 'Bruv' and even 'I'm Scouse' a lot; The English big cities have a habit of dumping their 'undesirables' in deprived seaside towns... and it shows.
I am sure I can find more... but I'll leave it this. I am not English, I am Dutch; I came to the UK in 2009, I was, and still am, shocked about the level of deprivation in the UK as a whole; everything is old and nothing has been maintained.15 Reply- 1 y

I'm sure all of that would affect your Dutch sensibilities... lol. I swear it must be in the DNA. My great grandfather immigrated to the US from Holland and the whole side of my dad's family is like you. It rubbed off on my brother an me, too. When he went to Holland, I swear the thing he was most impressed with was the toilets there! And I got all excited just by hearing his description of them!!

@Caroline91 I can't say I really miss the Netherlands, and haven't been back since I left in 2009.
I have broken with everyone from my past... I've even gone as far as taking a new identity, though it is not official yet (need £1330 to apply for the British Nationality).
It is definitely a country worth visiting if you go on holiday. The country isn't very big and public transport is very good, so every location can easily be reached in very little time (Travelling from the South-West to North-East takes you about 3.5 hours). Amsterdam is of course a nice city, though I would advise people to leave the city after a day or 2 and travel around the country.
Amersfoort, Zwolle, Groningen: Nice cities to visit too... They still have parts of the Medieval walls, towers/ gates and of course 'Medieval' Churches and Towers.
Dutch people are very open and welcoming towards English speaking tourists, as soon as they hear 'English' they'll switch to speaking in English without much effort.
(English is as good as a 2nd language to us; we start to learn English in 'Primary'/ 'Elementary' school at the age of 9, maybe even younger nowadays and continuous all the way through till Tertiary Education. Some colleges and universities teach exclusively in English now) - 1 y
@skinhead-1979 Thanks for all of the nice information... I would also like to see where my great grandfather left his finger in the dike to save things from flooding when he left. He says he was the little boy and was a finger, not a thumb!

@Caroline91 You are welcome, I enjoy talking to you 😊

Very peaceful and quiet , not much craziness going on , everyone around me seems peaceful and content for the most part , very rare to hear anything crazy happening around me. At times I feel like I am the crazy one lol , I am always outside in my yard doing something , usually blaring
Music as well , My home pretty much turns into a party house on occasion , but we aren’t that out of control , we pretty much know our limits of being respectful , the reason I bought my home , was because of the privacy I have , I don’t have neighbors right up on me , so no one has complained yet lol Most of My friends’ love my home for that reason.12 Reply- 1 y
No one would complain when they see that machine gun nest in your yard. 😯

1 yI live on about 3 acres right on a small lake. It's down a long drive off of the main road and is very quiet and peaceful. The lake is about 20 feet from our living room window and the patio. A muskrat has a den right in front of us and we see the Canadian Geese hatch out their babies and swim around the lake in late Spring. There are 3 Sandhill Cranes that seem to like our yard and deer actually swim across the lake sometimes, instead of walking around. I had no idea they would do that... So we see their heads bobbing in the water until they reach the shore right in our yard, get out and wander off I don't know where. I hear owls hooting at night and doves coo-cooing outside my window in the morning. I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by all of this beauty. Gotta go check on how the carrots are coming with my 5 year old. It's her own little garden and she planted it and tends it daily! I am blessed.

Not many homeless here in Michigan.
651 opinions shared on Other topic. i live here part time:

very calm. most of the year except in summer there's no one. mainly old people and people with summer homes. in the mountains, lots of sheep, goats cows and horses in pastures everywhere, nothing to do, quiet.
half of the time here:

the vibes differs on the neighborhood. where i live it's a more residential family friendly but lively neighborhood. so it's clean, and doesn't have too many bad or weird things going on. there's just the occasional roms who pretend to be needy or crazy high homeless person.

And it's been 105 ° all week which is way too hot for me.🔥11 Reply- 1 y
We can thank Bite-on-it for all this.
1 yTons of people who don’t speak English. Housing is completely unaffordable. Tons of job listings but no responses. The homeless crisis and drug epidemic is all over the sidewalks and city parks. Broken down cars, tents and trash in homeless encampments. The roads are falling part and not being repaired. One of the largest buildings in down town is being boarded up. It’s too dangerous to walk anywhere alone.
And this isn’t even a big city.10 Reply12.2K opinions shared on Other topic. It totally sucks. It is one of the most expensive places to live in the whole country. The taxes are high for shitty services. I do not even have trash pickup. The weather is bad 9 months out of the year. Crime is getting bad and there are hundreds of illegal, aliens that have been relocated into 2 hotels less than 2 miles from my house. I am trying to talk my wife into moving to Florida of some other citizen friendly state.

As long as we get enough rain in August it should be a pretty good year.
Someplaces are just too wet, and they could not get the crops planted this spring.12 Reply- 1 y

But there are a few weird people.
There is this girl I’ve seen at the pool a few times and I’ve caught her eye fucking me a few times as I was doing my laps.12 Reply- 1 y

Nah.
1 yIt happens when they just let anyone in, here it's being ruined by pubs renting rooms to people who are in and out of jail or maybe illegal immigrants because they need the money so we got alcoholics and junkies making the place look bad it's doing my head in, I'm one bad confrontation away from going John Wick on them...

1 yJust like any place it has its ups and downs. Most people are struggling because of the global inflation. But I have a roof over my head and a job so I cannot complain.
