Are you tired of Christmas yet?

I'm over it already, it's too much. It's fun, and all that, but I don't care for the music and skipping other holidays. We've not celebrated Veterans day or Thansksgiving, and I'm listening to Christmas Rap on the store mic. Ugh..

Cut me some slack. Lets Celebrate Veterans Day by honoring some veterans, Thanskgiving, and then do Christmas around the 20th of December.

Maybe I'll bring my headphones so I don't have to listen to the music.

Yup. I have to admit, it sounds Grinchy to say so, but when you start seeing the first Christmas advertisements before Halloween - and I also have one neighbor who put lights on his house before Halloween - you just get tired of it.

To be fair, Christmas is not my favorite holiday anyhow. I am a Spring/Summer guy and I Winter does nothing to improve my mood. (In fact, perhaps not surprisingly, Easter Sunday is my favorite holiday. See also this I wrote ages ago: What's your favourite holiday? )

Throw in then that Christmas is thrown at you with blaring intensity. You cannot walk into a store or turn on the television without having the Holiday thrown in your face. It is non-stop so that, by the time you reach Christmas, you just don't care anymore.

The other part of it is that, particularly advertisers, but people in general, tend to forget that we tend to cherish most that which does not last. For the other holidays - Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter Sunday, Valentine's Day, etc. - they get their little niche of time in media, stores, etc. and you appreciate them because you know they won't last.

By contrast, as noted, Christmas runs over Halloween and Thanksgiving. In fact, I saw my first - no kidding - store Christmas sales back in late August!!! So since Christmas is always blaringly in your face, you just start to see it as little more than wallpaper.

So yes, I know I sound like the Grinch - and don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the religious significance of the Holiday - but throw in the dreary time of year (Winter) and I am all set to see Christmas done and over with. Happy Easter Sunday to everyone - and Spring is just around the corner.
