America is so materialistic and primitive?

I watch 90 day fiancé. It’s a tv show that American boy or girl invite foreigner to America to get married in 90 days. It’s the same thing I see that they get together with family and their family start talking about money from the first meeting, I don’t understand. In my culture, money is privacy. They don’t talk about money at dinner table like they do. It’s so fucked up. And I thought that matriarchy exist in underdeveloped country but obviously America is inclined to matriarchy in so many American family. Americans are that primitive?

Well I'm not suggesting that every American is this way, as America is a country of millions of people, but those that I've met on social media, as well as a lot of people on the site do come across as rather superficial, materialistic and preoccupied with money, looks and material stuff. Think about how they have a thousand different commercial National days (Father's day, Books' day, Valentine's day, Halloween etc) and a whole industry built around it to make you feel pressured to spend more. When you really love someone, it matters not how you celebrate this one day, but how you treat your relationship on all the rest.

Of course, most people in this question will get offended and deny it is a thing though 🤷‍♂️

I don't think trashy T. V really reflects the average American, especially since America is pretty huge.. So different regions and States do things differently.. We have different sub cultures probably like many other countries.
