Should a mother wear a cover while breastfeeding in public?

No. It's literally what they're made for. However, every mother is different and some will feel the need to cover and that's perfectly acceptable. One thing to keep in mind is that not all babies tolerate being covered. Some babies will make a fuss over being covered.

I'm conflicted between not wanting to be confronted by the "I see a boob, oh, it's during breastfeeding, moving on then." thought hitting me in the face while I'm eating at a restaurant, and the thought that she's probably doing what she can when she can.

Like most things, try to be considerate all around, but do what ya have to.

It's not about society It's about protecting yourself. Having a breastfeeding wife we are in agreement in this matter.

Breastfeeding is completely natural, but some people are offended by it, so it's a good idea to cover up while breastfeeding, to avoid any issues. After all, the goal is for the baby to feed, and an argument could disrupt that.

@FunkyMonkee I agree with you, but some people will yell at the mother to cover up, and that will upset the baby's feeding. Rather than risk that, why not just cover up... for the benefit of the baby.

That's only going to prolong the problem. The fact that there are people so pathetically offended is all the more reason for everyone to not use a cover.

@Nifrayu And, it can't be all that good for the baby. Sometimes, I'll go to bed and put the blanket (basically, just a thin bed sheet) over my head and, after only a moment or so, I'M having a little trouble breathing! Think of how much harder it'd be for those tiny lungs to be able to breath!

no it is somewhat dangerous for the child because of the lack of oxygen. I think if anything society needs to create special places so women can breastfeed in privacy because some people (not you) become very irate when a woman does this

@Gent207-2 I didn't say any child had died and tbh I don't know if one has. I was pointing out that if you are covering yourself it is rather like an adult pulling the covers over themselves while in bed. you are not getting as much air as if you were uncovered.
