Funny you should phrase it that way, because that is actually how that word started out (generally referring to black people realizing that the government was not their friend) before it got repurposed and bastardized by the left, and dog piled by the right. In fact it was essentially the same thing as "red-pilled," until that too got hijacked by an offshoot of MGTOW to mean something completely different.

"Woke" now has gone completely the other direction to the point it means fully buying into the leftist social narrative, especially regarding transgenderism, and excuses for especially anti-white, but also anti-Asian and Jewish racism.
