What exactly is equality?

I've been doing some research on the topic of gender equality and have been trying to understand what equality really means. I'd love to hear your opinions on this.

Equality seems like it would be equal treatment regardless of needs.
Equity which is more about people with their own issues are given the opportunity to be on the same standing. So a paraplegic can get around by being in a wheelchair or someone with 1 arm is given a prosthetic.

Equality would be looking at an issue without considering other variables. Equity is about creating equality with the consideration of variables.

People say ___ equality but people generally want equity.

Equality means everyone having fair treatment under the law, and equal opportunities to the extent that is possible.

That is very different from the leftist definition of "from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs".

Equality is everyone is equal at the starting line.. Equal opportunity and the like. Leftists want it so that everyone is equal at the finish line.
