Don't know if it's because they've lived in a bubble their entire lives, their mothers did some freaking hard drugs while pregnant, they did drugs as youths & fried whatever brain cells they were born with, or you never know maybe they were dropped on their heads multiple times as infants. It’s a bit old really, a bit like saying that’s a job for a woman. If you live on your own, you have to do house work, ironing etc, somehow when a person is married it’s womens work. If someone is competent and able it’s their work as I have zero problems what sex they are.

Yes, because it's said to mean either "you can't do that because you're a woman" or "you have to do that because you're a man," and obviously those are both sexist.

If a job requires a lot of physical strength, that doesn't mean a man has to do it and a woman can't. That just means someone strong has to do it, or multiple people have to do it, like carrying a fridge up a flight of stairs.

It's not about saying a woman can't do the job, it's just saying the job is better suited to a guy.

And sometimes it literally is just a man's job. At work, we often have to lift electric wheelchairs up flights of stairs to get them into customer's houses. They can weigh up to 500lb and the stairways are often very narrow, sometimes only wide enough for one person at each end of the chair. Now that, in my opinion, is a man's job. I don't doubt a team of women would be able to carry 500lb up some stairs, but they sure as heck ain't fitting between those 2 walls. Men also have a much higher power-to-weight ratio, so even if you managed to find 2 women with the same strength as our 2 male movers, I can guarantee they'd be a lot bigger in size and would struggle to fit through the tight confines of some of the homes we work with.

Carrying anything heavy and bulky up a flight of stairs is hard. Just because someone's a man doesn't mean they can do that. I assume some of your clients are men who need wheelchairs, but you wouldn't say they're not men, even if they can't do that job you say is "a man's job"? Don't pretend like a woman has to be so big to carry 250 pounds that she wouldn't fit through narrow doorways either. Thats ridiculous. Men and women have some difference in how muscles build on average, but it's not nearly so drastic that a woman has to be the hulk just to work a manual labor job. They're women, they're not a different species.

Because generally speaking, men a better suited to physically demanding jobs. I'm not saying a woman can't do it, but biology has put men in favor of doing certain things, and women in favor of doing certain other things.

@adam6402 it doesn't offend me, I'm not in a wheelchair anymore. I can do hard jobs. It annoys me, because it's such an ambiguous pointless phrase. There's no such thing as "a man's job" because there's literally no job that only and all men can do. Every times someone says "a man's job" what they really mean is just a difficult job. It would be so much simpler and actually accurate just to say that. There's no reason to bring gender into it—except to try and offend people, if you are really into that.

@IceCreamSandwich it's not trying to offend anyone, it's a harmless term that's been used for years and years, a long time before people started trying to get offended by everything.

And I think you misunderstood what I was saying about the wheelchair. I wasn't bringing people in wheelchairs into this discussion at all, I was just saying for my job we sometimes have to lift the wheelchairs up into very small tight homes. I was just using that as a personal example of a mans job, because only men do it and not one of the 70-80 female employees I work with has been capable of doing it. So therefore, within our company it is a man's job, because the only ones physically capable of doing it are men.

@adam6402 I know what you were saying. I brought men who use wheelchairs into it, because they're men, but couldn't do one of the things you consider to be a "man's job." So obviously it's not a man's job, it's a strong able-bodied person's job. Otherwise, why couldn't a man do it? That doesn't make sense. I don't like when people talk in ways that don't make any sense. There's no reason to call it man's job instead of just a hard job. What reason is there? None—and it makes less sense. It's just a hard job.

There is not a single job position that has no women in it, across the world. So the question is not whether women are capable. Since guys are stronger physically, it might be easier for them to work on certain things, but I don't think anything should be reserved for men only.

Being an American president means you are the leader of the free world. Being the president of some other country is also vastly different. The American president has 10x the influence on the economy, politics, and how war is waged. Maybe in today's world it is. There's a dying breed of guys who probably are very proud of being able to do certain tasks and pass that on to their boys Or let their girls witness and man being helpful and capable.
i'm proud to do the yardwork and fix things around the house and I am complemented for it. If I wasn't here, she would have to rely on someone else to do it. I also have no problem if a girl wants to do chores or tasks that were once considered men's chores.
