No, I don't believe that anyone who is in jail prison been convicted should have it so comfortable I mean, That's like rewarding bad behavior now. If it was me who had to say so I wouldn't build no more prisons. just build rocket ships one way to the sun and clear out the prisons. I mean if you don't know how to act right behave here as you should. I'm not going to put you in jail so you can get out and do the same thing over again to some other poor victim. People just want to live in peace. People want to be able to leave their homes live in their homes and be safe. Comfortable. Not worry. If somebody going to follow me or break in my home stop playing with these criminals man. Leave them on Death row for 30 plus years come on. Stop that that's not the way you do it. If people is that hard to the point that the law don't mean nothing to them. Then you got one way trip to the sun and if anyone is fortunate enough to survive that trip and come back, you can live like a king, but I don't think anyone will be claiming that prize, you have kids growing up idolizing criminals. It's like the whole cycle just starts all over again. One generation after the other it has to stop and it's only getting worse and what's worse now is everybody's afraid of each other. The fear has been ratcheted up. The paranoia is at all time high and it's not going to be long before innocent people start dying out of this fear and paranoia you got people whole communities gated in like they're in prison. That's where we're at today. Afraid of each other. I say put them all on a rocket ship and send them to the sun, tear down a prisons and use that land for you. Know other uses. If you don't know how to act right here then you got to go. That's just my view. That's what I would do if I was in charge there and lawyers that defend them get the same sentence. Now I know there are innocent people out there who are in jail all that would be taken care of but the ones that you know 100% guilty cuz they don't give a damn about human lives. So you respond in kind and stop playing with these people man locking them up giving them you know dental food, vision healthier than me and you at our expense taxpayers got of stop playing with these criminals because it is really getting worse. I'm a firm believer in being punished with exactly the same crime you committed (for violent crimes). If you kill someone by beating their head in with a hammer, you die by the exact same technique. If you rape someone, you get raped. If you torture someone or deliberately draw out their suffering before death, you suffer in the same way before your own death.
And then there's mass shooters and mass murderers. They belong in solitary confinement for life. Human rights blah blah blah. No. Human rights laws should only apply to those who are human. Mass murderers lose the right to be called human and therefore should lose their human rights.
Who will these court appointed rapists going to be, though? It's easy to theorize "that man should be raped" but when you're handed the lube and expected to contribute to the penal system by sticking it into some guys hairy butthole, I suspect you might see the practical problem with your ideal. Yes yes "someone" can probably do it, but odds are that someone is going to also have to be a rapist. So you're rewarding a rapist with more opportunity to rape as long as he only rapes other rapists. At some poi t we have to consider the possibility that a revenge based system is a silly primate thing and we should maybe be a better species than that..

I set up wheelchairs and other mobility equipment for my job and I've worked with a few murders in prisons over the past few years. One of them had murdered a young lighting technician in cold blood back in 1992 and only had to serve 14 years for his ruthless crime. He was released and immediately went on a crime spree that ended with the murder of a 26 year old father of 2 innocently riding his quad on his own property. Both murders were completely unprovoked and at random, this guy just killed them for the fun of it. He was captured and sentenced to life in prison but is eligible for parole after 26 years. When he was captured by the police after his second murder, he was shot in the leg, hence why he now needs a wheelchair. I set up his wheelchair which cost over $15k (all government funded. Tax payers hard earned cash being given to a filthy animal) and he later used parts off that chair to make a shank and stab an inmate and one of the guards. Due to this incident, he was then funded a second completely custom-built wheelchair (this time costing over $25k) that had no removable parts, no wheel spokes, basically nothing he could take off and use as a weapon. Despite this, he later used the whole chair itself as a weapon to attack another inmate with.
Explain to me why this guy deserves to breathe another breath. He's a heartless animal, he's taken 2 innocent lives as sport, he's clearly proved that he won't learn his lesson and change, and every year (along with millions of other inmates like him) he's costing the taxpayers thousands and thousands of dollars.
At least half the point of rape would be to enjoy it, and so some modicum of the damage done to the victim is the knowledge that the rapist extracted sexual pleasure from the act. A machine can't do that and so it isn't "exactly the same" anymore.

It's more effective as a means to satisfy all the people who like watching people get raped and want a legal means for doing so, sure. But I contend that we shouldn't nurture such things in people. Either we are collectively better than rapists or we are the same and just outnumber them.
Absolutely. Assuming they are eventually going to be released, in addition to punishment the purpose of prison, to the extent that a prisoner will follow reasonable rules, should be rehabilitation. That is not likely to happen if prisoners are neednessly treated harshly.

If something works someplace else, it doesn't mean it would work everywhere. Norway is always given as an example. There is not even proof that what they do works. There are way to many factors involved.
If prisons in the US had those kind of rooms like they have in Norway, the crime rate would probably increase. People would be intentionally committing crimes so they could go live at the luxury apartments that includes free food and a bunch of other free stuff. And to get into prison instead of just a local jail, the crime has to be fairly serious. In the US, people already do that.
Prison is supposed to be a place people don't want to go to, not a place that's actually appealing to many people. You always hear about the recidivism rate, but you don't hear about the people who go to prison and vow to never go back.
Plus, whenever you hear about prisons, it's always about the most brutal prisons, the most brutal prisoners, and the most brutal things they do. Basically, it's cherry picking that seriously distorts what the average prison is like.
It might surprise people that the US has some prisons that are considered some of the nicest prisons in the world. But documentaries and news rarely focuses on that. Showing the worst of the worst gets more viewers.
Take a look at Norway's recidivism rates; they're clearly doing SOMETHING right- but that's from a sociological viewpoint, not an economic one. Norway doesn't have a school-to-prison pipeline, or a Forever War doctrine, or a military that could defend it against a serious threat. Teach a convict that there's no hope for them to ever become anything more, and that no one has any interest in them succeeding in any way, and it's hardly surprising that that so many dive whole hog into serious criminality.
I once worked at a fast food place, and one quiet day, spent a good half an hour in conversation with a customer (it was REALLY quiet, and near closing) who'd just gotten out of prison. Every time I've mentioned this to someone, they've said something like "Weren't you scared?". That struck me as odd, since logically someone who'd just gotten OUT of prison would know how much it sucks, and be less inclined to hurt you, for fear of being sent back. It's funny how many people acknowledge the message of Rambo- that turning people into remorseless killing machines pretty much destroys their chances of living a good life afterwards- but only applies it to military life.
Of course, this isn't just the result of having a brutal prison system; you can't mellow things out here and turn into Norway (in this regard) overnight. Complex problems have complex (and invariably multiple) causes.
Deserve no but society is already paying for their survival with taxes, I actually believe in the long run, it might be good for their mental health, people can grow with struggles and not all criminals are bad and have lived a rough life that leads to unfortunate situations and sometimes desperateness kicks in and you have a moment where you feel you have to rely on something easy but wrong to climb out the hole, now of course I think this all should depend on crime, worst crimes get normal jail time, misdemeanors and petty crimes should get this, you might think that maybe they will get so comfortable and not want to leave but everyone wants freedom, how long can a human possibly be within 4 walls without losing their mind, no family, being controlled by others 24/7, I think these rooms can be a good place for someone to think and get their shit together, they will be like "I want comfy living like this but with my fam, outside and with a wife, etc, then they think "I gotta get out of here first" you treat people like animals and eventually they will become animals, prisons only teach very small quantities of people a lesson, because when you get locked up and get used to it, you don't fear going back in and when they are released, they will rely back to their old ways or possibly worse, people join gangs and stuff in prison, kill each other etc, how much you think the human mind can take of that shit before it evolves into something worse.
It depends on why the person is in prison. Some crimes are too heinous to deserve comfortable accommodations. And some criminals are monsters.
But the majority of people are in prison for relatively minor crimes and will be released eventually. So, people like that would benefit from safe, clean accommodations, kind treatment and educational opportunities. Show them by example that life isn't about brutality.
Putting such people in a typical U. S. prison with gangs, rapists, murderers, and monsters forces them to assimilate into that culture or die. They come out worse than when they went in.
Deserve is simply the wrong word. The question is "what is our plan when it comes to the criminal element of society?" If it's to just keep them out of the way, we may as well just drop them into the ocean from the next oil barge that crosses the Atlantic. But if it is to show pride in humanity as the superior species where even the least among us is better than the most pampered animal, and to reflect our determination to correct criminal minds because only humans can accomplish such a feat, then probably comfortable living conditions are are prerequisite, yeah.

They do this at many prisons but not all. But there has to be labor jobs they can do to pay for a nicer room.
However comparing Nordic countries to the USA is a pure fools daydream. Those communities are much more close knit and homogenous.
If you do something stupid in a Iceland the entire community is going to know about it and you will become a pariah quick. They keep each other in check.
Sweden already had a very regrettable experiment of taking large numbers of Syrian refugees. Their crime and rape rates skyrocketed and most natives changed their mind real quick on the “open borders” stupidity.
I think deserve the wrong word but Norway has figured out a system to re integrate people into society with smaller crimes like robbery or notoriously using the public transport without a ticket. Like there are small things that can get a person in prison not every prisoner has killed or raped someone.
Norway has one of the lowest recitivism rates in the world with about 20% within the first years, I read that in the US it´s 52%. They get a nice cell yes but they have to work in prison and they have to keep it clean. The idea is that prison is an educational place for people to learn and get a job to be a normal society. Various psychological studies have shown that building people up and be positive with them is more helping than putting them down. The idea is to build a person up and make them develop a healthy fundament for life so that they get live on their own when they are out.

Where I live they build a county jail on the median strip of a local highway. It looks like the one in norway. It is mostly for people who get busted for possession or drunk drivers. They are not career criminals. The gym they have is better than the one tht I belong to.
Giving prisoners a tough time in prison sound great and all, but after time served they go back out into the world. Studies show that prisoners who went to a terrible prison have a (much much) higher change of ending up in prison again. And a lot of the time with far worse crimes.
Stupidest thing you can do is throw people in solitary confinement. That messes with your brain big time. Does it still sound smart when after 3 years of solitary confinement they get out and move to the house next door? Messed up, on edge and just a bit paranoid.
Germany has similar arrangements. That's why we only have half the recidivism rate, a low crime rate and only 58.000 prisoners. Put two and two together?
Great you have a low crime rate, but the criminals that are in for murder or serious crimes get a slap on the wrist and deserve rehabilitation? If someone murdered one of your loved ones, you think they deserve a nice room and to be rehabilitated? Sorry man... I don't see the math adding up.
