For a foreigner, why in the united states, the libertarian party had to differentiate themselves from the liberal party?

In the US the libertarian party has been hijacked by republicans to use as a gateway to the republican party. They mostly use the idea of legal weed, no taxes, and removing the age of consent to draw apolitical young men into politics and then bombard them with "jokes" about republican culture wars.

The libertarian party is in favor or small government t and limited intrusions by the government. They are all about personal responsibility

Liberals are the opposite. They want big government, lots of social programs, government intrusions on our lives, high taxes and the government t limits individual rights.

A liberal, like a conservative, will fight for the freedom to do things they approve of. So in things like marriage and abortion, they fall into the pro-freedom stance. But in other issues like guns and freedom of commerce (being able to choose who you do business with), they are against it.

Libertarian is serious about liberty and will advocate for your freedom to do almost everything, even if they personally don't agree with it.

The Libertarain party is completely different from the demcorat party - which claims to be liberal but is nothing of the sort. The democrats are authoritarian commies, which is the complete antithesis of libertarian ideals.
