At the first presidential debate Monday night, Republican nominee Donald Trump again defended the "small loan" his father gave him to start his now hugely successful business. Democrat Hillary Clinton, while discussing jobs at the Hofstra University event, noted that the tycoon had been "very fortunate in his life" and had started out
But a Wall Street Journal investigation uncovered a document showing that, in 1985, Trump owed his dad and his dad's companies roughly $14 million.
If my dad loaned me $14 million, I could start an empire.
I started with a lot less...
didn't want an empire though, I went towards happiness
With Proverbs 10 vs 22 The blessing of theord makes one rich and he ados no sorrow with it- it would be possible. Donald Trump is commendable in the feat he achieved by God's Grace
You can do anything with a little start money if you are willing to screw people over. Only with the latter will you get very far. Unless lucky.
I completely agree with you
Thanks for the mho

I'm completely lacking the administrative discipline, work ethics, and financial skills. I'm very decent about saving money but not investing it and seeing it grow. My chances are probably better at the poker tables.
Lmao definitely respect the honesty and introspection
Cheers! ๐ค One thing also is that whatever semblance of leadership qualities I have is largely based on empathy, trying to deeply understand every individual person's needs and struggles, and looking out for people.
That doesn't really scale so well to an empire. There's just too many people to try to relate to deeply. I think it's a very different type of leadership that's required in those cases, maybe even a bit ruthless, like an emperor sacrificing a pawn. It doesn't fit with my ethics but also my emotional inclinations. I'm a bit of a softie there.
Also largely lacking financial ambitions. Always had creative ambitions and skill ambitions. I want to be the best I can be, want to create cool and innovative stuff, but don't want to get so rich and have so much responsibility. I'm happy just being able to do what I do without worrying about being able to pay the bills.
Donald Trump got 400 million from his father. And he would have more money today if he had just invested it in bonds and stocks. Most of his ventures were utter failures.
$1 million is not a small loan. People have started empires with $100.
and in reality, his dad loaned him $14 million
It depends on
a) When they wanted the loan repaid
b) How much interest they'd want.
No doubt, I definitely can.
Fortunately, I didn't need to get a loan to fulfill my goals.
$1 million? LOL! Fats inherited hundreds of million$ from daddy.
Yes, but after inflation it would be a small empire.
Done alright with a few thousand, let alone a million
Yes, I'd buy property and become an landlord. You can't lose.
"Small loan" is not 1mil 😅
You didn't get the joke. It was a Donald Trump reference.

You mean, like Trump did?
Hard pass. I'm done with loans.
hard but possible
I could do something with a fraction of that.
Not at all obvious that I could, no.
Yes I can easily
it is possible with compound return in years
What is the interest rate?
i couldn't
Small loan of 1M$ 😂
Yes. Stocks/crypto.
