Why did Covid ruin cities like New York?

You head to Philadelphia or New York nowadays it’s a total cesspool. Totally out of control since the start of the pandemic.

Covid hit cities hard for a few reasons. Think about what makes a city like New York special: tons of people, all close together, using public transportation, going to events. Perfect storm for a virus, right? Plus, a lot of jobs in cities rely on people being out and about, like in restaurants or theaters. Those places struggled when everyone stayed home. It's not ruined though! Cities are slowly bouncing back, and there are still some perks to urban life.

I'd say it's not Covid and that everything anywhere everything has a "heyday" and eventually has a "decline" and I feel like maybe, as a foreigner looking in, that maybe those cities are declining while, say, Los Angeles or Chicago are thriving or gonna be thriving :) mmm

The Trump administration withheld vital resources unless the the mayors of these cities and the governors of the states endorsed him for president by lying and saying what a good job he was doing.

Bad quality of life, cesspool of mentally disturbed people, poverty and despair. All worse since the pandemic. Trying to price out minorities, no way that place has high demand anymore, and it should be affordable.

It’s expensive because it’s racist. People want to live in Hawaii, and California, and they are different stories. The low demand, and high prices especially housing prices screams racism to me.

@Asker New York has always had those problems. I will say that covid did make things a bit worse, but not to the degree reported in the media. Gentrification has been a problem for decades, worsening in the last 10 years with the demolishing and remodeling of residential buildings. One brownstone a friend of mine used to live in was affordable when she was little. Now that same building has a fucking 6.25k a month rent because the original owner sold it, new owner remodeled. So, I suppose I do agree with you.

@ApplePie409 yes they are. Mksr notable in Grand Central. I don't use the subway often since I don't need it to commute to work. But I've seen them around. I was a bit shocked when their deployment was announced, but ultimately I'm not against it. All the crazies hang out in the subway
