Did you feel the earthquake today?

I live in the Northeast USA. The whole house was rattling and it sounded like a bomb went off... things fell off shelves. You could feel the ground shaking like it was being hit with a gigantic hammer.

It was a big deal for us because it is very rare here. There hasn't been an earthquake this strong for 140 years.

I don't understand why the news channel only showed the earthquake all day and into the night. I could see them doing that if people were killed and hurt and burried under rubble and buildings came crashing down, but that didn't happen.

No one died, no one even got hurt. Thank God.

It is newsworthy because it is very unusual in the Northeast to have an earthquake of this magnitude and it affected a very wide area... pretty much all of New England... and states surrounding New Jersey.

actualy there was stronger in new york 5.3 in 2002, less than 140 years! and a similar one in maine 2012.

but news companies who lost credibility are desperate to attract people so make a sensation... and hope we forgot!

What time was it?
I might've been in bed.
We had two minor quakes here, once in the mid `80's and again in the early `10's. If I felt anything at all, it was just an incredibly light rumble. A few people I was with each time said they felt it.

i had feel many earthquakes in turkey. Once I lived in istanbul there was an 5.8 magnitude earthquake.

In some parts of the Western United States, earthquakes are common. But they are very unusual in the Northeast part of the country, especially this strong.
